So, Snow still on the ground and I am getting cabin fever. I decided to try and modify a Hed 10 Speed Shimano free hub body to accept an 11 speed cassette. I run campy 11 speed and campy cassettes on my bikes but I happen to have 2 new 10 speed free hub bodies that were sent to me by Hed when I had a set of their wheels in for warranty repairs. There is enough room on the back shoulder of the body to mill out the 1.8mm that is needed to accept an 11 speed cassette so why not do it and see what happens. Since I am running the campy free hub I figured that I would not have to relish the wheel or use a different axle/endcaps. I was correct. The modified body worked like a charm and I did not have to even adjust the Rear Deraillure when I installed it with an 11 speed shimano cassette. I was also worried about the RD cage getting to close to the spokes but I have the same clearance as I did with the campy set up. I can run the cheaper shimano cassettes even though I know they will plough into the soft Al splines and limit the life of the freehub. I really like the superior Italian deep campy splines.

Here is the body ready to be turned on the lathe.
