Hmmm..$115,000 up front(van plus franchise buy in fee) with 10% fee going to parent company.

I started 2 bike shops in Boulder with about 1/2 of that. I've done a biz plan for a one man shop in Boulder for about 1/3 of that. Seems keen but lots of $ upfront. The 10% offsets a lot of $ associated with having a store front. Rent, insurance, utilities, internet/phone fees, etc. Plus seems like a lot of time just 'getting there', to the customer, limits what one person can accomplish. I needed about 4-6 'jobs' per day for a decent cash flow.

Interesting tho.

There was a store than closed here years ago and he tried to do something like that, a mobile shop/repair van and did not work for him. But that doesnt mean wont work maybe in california and in places where people have a lot of money and dont have time to check out their bikes. People that have money pays for everything.

Interesting idea with plenty of pros and cons vs. a traditional shop. I've seen similar businesses in both NYC and SF. The upfront costs seem a bit high, but part of the value would be the technology platform, brand, territory claim, etc. I would love to see stats for their existing franchisees like avg revenue per van to see how they are doing.

Yes, but the Velofix owner would have to live 2.5 hours from SF to find
an affordable hovel to live in.
There is a Velofix van around here, downside is tiny parts selection,
so you have to skip a lot possible jobs due to lack parts.
