"Adding a little dark chocolate to a training diet may effortlessly improve endurance performance, according to a new study of sports nutrition. The findings provide ammunition both for athletes looking for an edge and those hoping for an excuse to indulge."

I think you would be surprised at what additives are in most chocolate bars if you read the label. I buy only 85% dark and up and only get it if it has no soy. It is really high in fiber and has a really small amount of sugar. It is bitter, but if you find it palatable it can be a great snack.

i eat the 100% cacao bars as well as use the powder to make hot chocolate at least every other day. i love it but i know some people don't. the fiber and magnesium are suuuuper dope because most people are deficient in both.

also, beets.

to lower the glycemic load just cook or eat them raw. but the juice is supposedly effective as well. i get these fermented beets from whole foods that are really... interesting. i put them in salads

Don't these studies always come out around Easter and Christmas?

Regardless, I support this result.

A while back, a big story hit the news about how eating a bit of chocolate could actually help people lose weight. Turned out later to be a hoax engineered by a couple of guys in order to show how easy it is to get bogus science into mainstream media.

As for "heavy metals" in chocolate... meh. The poison's in the dose.

I just got back from a ride; had a hunk of Hershey's chased with an oatmeal stout.

I'm feelin' pretty effin' good.

thank you for the offer Mzilliox, very gratuitous but totally unnecessary, (unless of course you absolutely insist I sample your wares, but then I would be providing a great service, no? :). attached photo here to show I do keep a "necessary" stash w/me at all times in my office. I thank my charming wife for taking such good care of my needs, she knows I have an affinity for the dark stuff, eat just a little bit, every single day!

Cheers to you as well

Resveratrol (available in chocolate and red wine or in capsules) has been shown to increase the endurance of rats but I am not sure if data exists showing similar benefits to humans.
