Rapha giggles

I'm a pretty big fan of Rapha but the first guy, with the 'thousand yard stare', is pretty funny/weird/strange. 'Urban clothes'..also kinda weird, IMHO.

Rapha is really exploding their line-up. I would vastly prefer a company like them stick to their core market of good, premium cycling goods, but now they are really expanding. I recently bought their core kit, and, as far as the jersey is concerned - I'm pretty underwhelmed.

other than the fact that it says Rapha and there is some brand recognition among cyclists, i dont see why anyone is going to buy an oxford dress shirt for $140 from rapha, when so many other options exist in that price range, for example.

they have a smart marketing and development department though, i'm sure they've done their homework.

I recommend checking them out at that time though, they're really nice and make great work shirts for office rats like me.

not many people. that's why it's pretty easy to find such things for great prices, in most sizes, during their sales. I recommend checking them out at that time though, they're really nice and make great work shirts for office rats like me.

most of the city collection is for people shaped like froome. which would not be me. that said, the two SS shirts I have (on sale) are excellent. very nice cut and cotton. I would probably buy a few other pieces if I could fit them (5'10", 171#s). My a $$ is evidently too big for the jeans.

while i also dont' like the dilutive ventures across so many lines, I do have to say I like the idea of some nicer looking clothes that are not as casual as Gap/Banana, not as business as Nordstrom, and not as outdoorsy as Patagonia.

I have found the pack jacket and the transfer jacket to be nice travel pieces. the no longer offered fixed jacket is a pretty nice piece too, pretty technical schoeller fabric that just beads water off in a light rain.

what i found somewhat hilarious but should have expected was the way the folks lining up for the SF archive sale looked - many head to toe in rapha city.

a friend of mine has the sunglasses and swears by the optics. I tried them in the store and they even fit my small nose bridge. seemed nice, but my rudy's work fine.

I have a hard time imagining the sunglasses optics are good enough to justify the price tag but I said the same thing about nearly every other rapha product I own (I've lost count). The only one I wasn't happy with was their shoes. This I attribute more to my foot than a problem with the actual shoes.

the rapha were nice, and nice looking. but I wasn't compelled to say bye to my Rudy's and spend $300

As much as I have fallen for Rapha on the bike, I am not a huge fan off the bike. Mostly because off the bike I still, at nearly age 40, resemble my 17 year old self of punk rock tee shirts, worn out jeans, and vans.

Kinda true as the city collection fits me pretty good. I like the city collection, i guess its my favorite from rapha. Have quite a few items from it and use at least one of them on a daily basis more or less. Its nice to be able to ride comfortably but look casual once you get to your destination esp if you use your bike as a transport and not only as a tool for training.

Their City Collection has been around for awhile IIRC.. this is not a new strategy or line of business for them, although I find this season's ad campaign fairly underwhelming and (even more) ripe for mockery (as this thread so gleefully demonstrates).

Never paid that much for a shirt, probably never will & I don't think I could justify (to myself) paying that much for a shirt. Then again, I'm probably in a lower tax bracket than a lot of the people buying stuff priced like this so it's probably all relative.

Bought a pair of City Collection cotton chinos. (http://www.rapha.cc/us/en_US/shop/cotton-trousers---slim/product/CTT01) Used a 15% off discount code so, as pants go, it wasn't too badly expensive. Like all Rapha goods, it is a well made article of clothing.

Beware of the cut of the cloth on these pants - they are svelte and trim fitting. Rapha describes the cut as "Offering a slim fit with a gradually tapered lower leg" but they are cut actually getting dangerously close to hipster fashionista pretensions. I got 'em in size 32-Med which fits perfect but IMO anybody's gotta be in shape to wear 'em. Zippered pockets are a good feature for riding but displaying the pink tab is too loud for me.

Nicely done Rapha. For some, gripe all ya want but if you've ever owned some of their stuff, it would be hard to say that Rapha doesn't do it right.

HaHa! Even this Rapha guy is prettier than me. I'm closer to that horror picture creature. Hmmm, that creature looks like he's wearing a jacket from the Japanese maker Kapital.

Rapha's got the imagery schtick for their marketing down cold: bearded Belgian hard men for their cycle clothes and smug looking urbanites for the apt titled City Collection - the kinda guys that look like they all work jobs in the City rigging LIBOR rates. (j/k; it's kinda a cheap shot to disparage finance industry workers but they do have the look of urban sophisticates.)

Sure, it is easy to poke fun at Rapha but they do the smart thing by creating this marketing and NOT disappointing the customer with a lousy product afterwards. If they did that then of course Rapha could be accused of ripping off their customers and, as a business, shooting themselves in the foot in the process. But they didn't and they don't. Rapha made, and I bought, a pair of nice pants.
