Making room for new bike and would like to see this one given the love it deserves. This is a mini-max version with Enve 1.0 fork. I'm selling frameset including CK headset and seat clamp(wheels and groupo not included). Overall it in great shape and there are no dents but there are a few paint chips and chain slap marks and scratches. I've included pictures of all the imperfections. Let me know if you have any questions. I am asking $1100 including shipping.

Lovely bike. How does mini max ride?

Lovely bike. How does mini max ride?

Great question. So when I originally asked Steve to build me a bike I wanted a max steel bike because I always wanted an MXL. At the time I weighed around 170lbs and he talked me into a mini-max which is a lighter weight tubing version of the his max bikes. I have 3 steel bikes, Hamptsten mini-max, SV with carbon seat tube and a heavy duty steel cross bike. The mini-max is the most lively of the bunch and feels like a great climbing bike. It has just a little spring to it where you feel like the bike is working with you. Where as my steel cross bike feels like a tank that nothing will stop it and just rides solidly over anything without much disturbance but has no lively or connectedness to rider. The SV is a stiffer bike than mini-max but with the carbon seat tube rides a bit differently. It is very smooth but lacks a bit of the liveliness of the mini-max.

The only short coming to the mini-max is when you are sprinting hard out of a corner the rear will 'whip' up a bit. I've ridden this bike in crits and you can definitely feel the rear triangle 'whip' up after hard sprints.(I don't know how else to describe it).

I believe this bike would be best suited for someone who weighs around 170lb or less.

My wife really likes the Hampsten and says it is the nicest bike in my garage(she likes the color). She is even encouraging me not to sell it. ;-(

Responding to PMs but need to step away for a few hours. Bike will fit 28mm in rear comfortably but limited to Enve 1.0 fork in front which is spec'd to allow 28mm. I put on a wheel with 28mm tires(Ruffy Tuffys) in the front and I feel like it may be too close for my comfort.

whos got one like it?

Jad

Close one--that would have been a very good fit for me. Of course, whether I could actually have bought it is another story...

I'm interested in your description of the frame "whip up":

... The only short coming to the mini-max is when you are sprinting hard out of a corner the rear will 'whip' up a bit. I've ridden this bike in crits and you can definitely feel the rear triangle 'whip' up after hard sprints.(I don't know how else to describe it). ...

Did the frame "whip up" after a hard sprint or just as you started to sprint? I'm riding my first ever steel race bike and one of the things I love is that in the instant I go to sprint, the frame almost coils for a split second and then jumps into the acceleration. It's an exhilarating feeling.

edit: by the way, happy to take this question/conversation out of classified.

Luckily for me the sale fell through and I'm still the owner of this wonderful bike. I've upgraded the components and it rides like a dream. It is also a great traveling bike ;-)

Lovely bike. Can't imagine selling a Hampsten.

So - the Gavia! Nice! (Better weather than Andy H had, that's for sure.) What's the weather like over there now? Headed to Bormio in a few weeks...
