Sorry as I'm sure this has been brought up - but was there a change recently? I see the FD now has the long arm a la shimano 11. Is there a change in the corresponding shift lever? what about RD?

If there are new levers with new pull for the new derailleurs, how do you tell them apart? I see on ribble's site that they have the long arm FD and the older style, but the shifters still look the same to me. How to differentiate between the models/years?

TIA.

from reading this article I gather that everything 2014 and newer is this "11+" thing, so nothing is compatible with the old 11 speed. OK, fine, but how do we tell the levers apart?

are these 2014 or 2015?

The hoods are different. You're looking at 2015 shifters in that picture.

They are different. I believe Those are the old ones though.

2015. You can use the front der with any shifter(best 2014-2015 tho) but the rear der is unique to 2015 RH shifter..SR/Record/Chorus.

The spool on the backof the RH lever is a different color(the only difference). Black is 2009-2014. 2015, white..far left is 2009/10 Centaur 10s. Gotta ask ribble, I 'guess' they will know..

ALSO, 2015 hood have these wee bumps on them, 2014 didn't.

No, 2014 and older..no wee bumps on hoods.

Whoops. I shouldn't post from the toilet at 5:40 in the morning. Those are 2015s. Duh.

There's no problem using 2014/13 chorus shifters with a set of 2009 record derailleurs right?

Nope. All the first gen 11 speed stuff is totally cross compatible.

cool, thanks! Too bad the logos aren't all compatible!

2015 levers can be distinguished from 2014 and before as they are marked on the bodies, under the hood with an "A" in a box - as are compatible derailleurs, which are likewise marked, engraved on the cages.

We don't recommend 2014 and prior UltraShifts with 2015 FDs - it's true that the stroke of the lever is the same as earlier versions but the 2015 levers have a stop bar built into the thumb shift limiting the shift to 2 "clicks" so that (like Shimano) in some cases, where the chain is on the bigger sprockets at the back, you'll need to shift down, wait for the chain to fully engage the inner ring, then tab the lever again - older levers can take all 3 clicks at a time which in the case of a chain further towards the "easy" end of the cassette, can result in chain drop. The re-design of the cage on the FD and the new rings provides a faster and more accurate shift in both directions if correctly assembled, set up and used but increases the chances of chain drop on downshift in the situation noted above, especially in compact chainsets, if the incorrect lever is used - hence the change in design and recommendations where the lever is concerned.

As a general rule, Campagnolo don't recommend the use of the PowerShift levers with Chorus and upward rear derailleurs as there are problems with lever internal durability in combination with the stronger return springs built into there RDs

What about crankset compatibility? Can 2014 cranks be used with 2015 shifters/ders? Like the 5 arm cranks better than 4 arm ones and may get it if compatible. Thanks!

Ring spacing should be the same, no?

Never heard of problems using even old C record cranks all the way to 11 speed drive trains.

SO the thing with the 3 clicks is to avoid chain drops and stuff? well if the FD is setup right you wont drop the chain ever, just to start.

That is correct. No problem at all. For right above, using a 2015+ front der with 2-14 and older shifters. If properly adjusted, 3 clicks to big ring..what they are saying is the 3 clicks to small ring, with a more 'aggressive' front der cage design 'may' spit the chain. But with a little cycling finesse..easing off the pedal pressure whilest shifting-no issue. AND using the 2015 LH shifter, there is a mechanical stop that allows for 2 clicks to small ring, then another..but it still works with older FDers.

No issue with crank compatibility. You can even use '10s' cranks with other wise 11s 'stuff' without issue. The whole, 'get an 11s chain stuck between the rings', really isn't an issue. PLUS, use aan 11s crank with 10s stuff, same no issue.

I like the 4 arm cranks too. I'd be looking for a Chorus compact, 50-36...

AND eventually if the 2015 white takeup spools ever become available, convert an older ERGO to 2015 spec OR...use an older spool(which I have) to convert 2015+ RH lever to older spec and rear der.
