Bro, I just saw it - this is kind of a huge deal. I'm not into Brits and I'm not into track racing, but that is like wicked awesome.

I love that shot. I haven't seen the full replay, just highlights but I guess Cav hit the deck.

Knowing not very much about track racing, it seems that Wiggins and Cavendish bring entirely different skill sets, capabilities and physiological specificity. Is it typical that a team is made up of these two types of riders?

I would think that this event would select for teams that are more alike than different.

Am I totally off base? Are there strategic reasons you get these two different types of riders?

The Madison needs both skills. And it ain't like Cav can just ride a bike 100m and then needs to catch his breath...

the main thing you need for the madison is two good endurance track racers. past that, the specifics of the skillset is kind of moot, or adaptable, though it does help to have somebody who can take a lap by sheer force. There are lots of enduros who can outsprint Cav on the track but he's a savvy rider who can get himself into the right place at the right time and knows what's happening in a race.

on the amateur side it can definitely be helpful to have somebody who can beast the sprints and somebody who can cling on to just about anything - that's how my team for the past few years has been structured... although we've had races that expose our weaknesses - in one race, a very strong team watched us scoop up lots of points and then attacked us. i wasn't quite powerful enough to chase alone and my teammate wasn't really able to contribute to a long fast chase... so though we had accumulated a lot of points, we got a lap taken from us and we got second.

This is the second time they win it together. For example cav did the omnium and he did great in the individual pursuit considering the type of rider he is. I think this win takes several by surprise but that cav cant climb doesnt mean he can do a lot in the flats, specially in the track where he has a few world champion tittles already.

Remember like last years road national championship, he was pulling and attacking like the best.
