A Steve Rex-built, full stainless fixie is not fillet

Rex won for Best Fillet.

The carbon steel combo was the one that won.

I would say there is something for just about everyone on the list, but my list would be different on about 20 of the choices. I have a very narrow view of bikes and should not be counted as normal. Nevertheless I am happy to add my comment.

I can't take seriously a list with pictures that have almost every bike with the crank in the wrong position.
The carbon weave was interesting, but only a few I would call beautiful.

That Alchemy looks scrumptious, but the price... my lord , and here I thought another front range mtb manufacturer was hitting the pipe a bit too hard. But hey if I had the means I would probably own one.

They're missing a few

Llewelyn for one

In my estimation beauty is in craftsmanship as well as design, so I find bicycles from Zanconato, Bedford, and Kirk in the simple elegance of their craftsmanship and functionality

getting past the amateurish photography, there were only two bikes in that entire group that rated more than 4 / 10 for looks.

Outside magazine, not exactly a respected cycling news source...

Calling that amateurish photography is an insult to amateurs everywhere.
There are better quality photos posted daily in threads on this website.

+1 on the Steve Rex.

Meh. What a surprisingly unappealing pictorial. The lighting makes the bikes hard to appreciate and looks more appropriate for a car, and yes, the cranks are in random positions. Perhaps the entire name of the magazine is "Outside In A Car Texting"?

Yeah the photography leaves a lot to be desired but I think they captured some trans-dimensional beings or crafts in the Retrotec picture.

lists of the "best" of anything are always worthless. dont care if it's the best burger, best coffee bean or best bicycle.

it is a magazine though, and they need content :hello:

List should be "these are some of ugliest bikes we saw at NAHBS"

i do love the Eriksen Cross bike, a couple others were decentish, but the rest are pretty lame. Interesting

only two listed interest me. Too much gravel and dirt purpose there for my likes.

Love the crank wheel on that rex, tho, and the Erikson is nice and clean.

Yup, sorry Nick C for leaving you off my original thought list.

Truth be told I have always admired the craftsmanship in the Crunptons, even though I've only seen 2 in person

None of those bikes move me. I'll take a "normal looking" road bike from Dave Kirk, Tom Kellogg or Carl Strong over those any day. Even an old Legend looks better to me. I guess I am a Luddite.

I share the meh. But.............Outside Magazine is a jack-of-all trades for everything outdoors. That's not a bad thing - I subscribe and enjoy it. It feeds my passing interest in skiing and mountaneering and supports my hobbyist level activities as a camper, trail runner, and kayaker. However, as a hard core cyclist, I find that they miss the details/nuance of my sport. No biggie. I'm sure dedicated skiers and mountaineers find their coverage of those sports simplistic. It's not their raison d'etre (or remotely possible) to be the definitive authority on everything.

So-so photography. Shallow choices. Meh. Never been a fan out of that rag.

No, there are no world's 21 'most' beautiful anythings. The one mentioned by Weisan is painful to look at even if it wasn't an electric scooter..IMHO

I may be a philistine, but the English Cycles that weighs sub-10lbs was kinda cool. But yes, taken in total, pretty lackluster.

I don't know. The first bike that came up for me was the Dean (no. 21) and that wasn't all that came up. So did breakfast. Looking more closely, the frame is fine but those wheels...
