Surprised this hasn't been mentioned. Or maybe I missed it.

Craig is offering a kickstarter program to build your own bamboo bike.

That's cool. I wish I could change a light bulb. I'd love to try this.

This pretty slick...I'd love to convince our school district to try this for a shop project.

I think I'd be in for one. I've built a steel bike, I would like to build a bamboo.

i think there are bamboo bike kits for sale on eBay as well.

definitely a great idea though, dunno how durable that casting tape will actually be over time but it is a great way to get people into bikes and frame building.

there really is nothing quite like that feeling of riding a frame you made yourself.

If anyone is interested in this and is in the Denver area (or can get there), a friend of mine runs two-day bamboo bike building workshops: http://www.cc360denver.com/bikes.html.

I haven't done one yet myself, but I hope to relatively soon. I've been impressed with Russ's other work. He and I taught at a high school together and his students spoke well of his teaching style.

I could build this bamboo bike, and I might since I pledged to buy a tool kit and frame material kit. It'll be a good winter project next year.

I watched a bunch of the videos which Calfee has on youtube and it looks like it'll take some time, but pretty darn simple to do.

Expanding the stable: Steel, CF, Aluminum ... add Bamboo.

calfee is local, and I have seen plenty of their bamboo bikes.

whats stopping me from this, or the 56 in the classifieds, is

1) any frame drags a few $k in decent grouppo, wheels, cockpit parts that I dont have in a bin somewhere. I'm not one who has everything I need and am just waiting for a frame

2) I cannot imagine me preferring the bamboo over the other boutique frames I own for a real ride.

3) so if not a frame for a real ride, what's left is townie. a very expensive townie. for that purpose I should have bought that lugged argonaut fiixie a few years ago...that thing was simply awesome.
