Sorry, it took me a few days to edit and collect my thoughts.

It looks like I'm restricted to only 10 photos per post, so it'd be more efficient to go directly to my high resolution photos here:
https://goo.gl/photos/R1JKBUJ5D5UJaFtK6

Key takeaways

Tom Ritchey is taller than I expected. He spoke reverently of Jobst Brandt.
Steve Rex makes beautiful bikes. My favorite of his was the all-stainless lugged build, polished and bead-blasted.
Tim O'Donnell makes beautiful bikes. We spent a lot of time in the Shamrock booth.
Mike Lopez is very down-to-earth, and glad to have the opportunity to take the next step beyond the Meivici.
Kent Eriksen's bikes are still sexy.
Caletti's ocean-themed bike and kit were over the top.
There are lots of Ti builders, from all over the world. Many are still adapting to flat-mount disc brakes, and some even have tapered head tubes!
Rob English is amazingly creative. He earned a deposit from me!
There were a lot more mainstream vendors than I recall from 4 years ago. That said, the Rotor hydro shifting and SRAM eTap were some of the more technologically interesting items on display.

A few photos to whet your appetites:

Steve Rex

Of all Rex's beautiful frames on display, the one that struck me as sublime was the all-stainless lugged wonder. The tubes are bead blasted, while the lugs, dropouts and fork crowns are polished stainless. Droooool...

No! It's Mike Lopez's latest creation! He said that this is what he would have built had he not had Serotta's restrictions (e.g., round tubes, keeping the rear end compatible with the Ottrott, etc.).

I actually made an audio recording of most of his talk; I can put it on Dropbox if folks are interested.

Favorite quote that was not recorded: "Jobst was not a racer, but led rides that racers feared."

In summary, Tom met Jobst when Tom was 15 or so and a burgeoning racer. His influence on Tom extended to off-road riding (on road bikes), European travel, and the details of bicycle design. Jobst influenced Tom's career and education decisions, as well as design details. For example, during their maintenance sessions, Jobst would show Tom the wear marks on headset races and hub flanges, and these would be clues to how frames and components should be designed.

Early on Cino Cinelli personally made Jobst's frames. Jobst would stop by Cino's shop at the start of a European trip, and pick up the finished frame a week or two later. Later on, Tom would make Jobst's frames.

It was a subdued, respectful remembrance. I can take credit for showing Tom how to put Powerpoint in presentation mode :D (the outcome of having to use that crappy program too much in my career).

Nope, I had no plans. But when I heard the waiting list was already 1.5 years, and the deposit was only $500, I needed little encouragement. Plus my wife was very supportive, as that happened to be my birthday!

Most are direct to consumer. Hopefully, it will return to Austin in a few years, and it will be a nice weekend to drive over from LA. I haven't looked this year, but there was a list of vendors in years past. Have you tried a web search for NAHBS?
