If someone needs to think about this they will never be able to ride a really fast criterium.

Because it's "counter"-intuitive! :p

You do it automatically, you just don't realize it. However, if you make a conscious effort to practice the technique your riding will improve immensely.

Lennard Zinn wrote a great article on this a few years ago in VeloNews. You may be able to search their archives for a detailed explanation.

when you start to think about stuff like walking or breathing..you get into trouble.
the bike is the same... just go around a corner...you did it.
good job.

Borrow a motorcycle, and it'll be clear in, oh, about 15 seconds.

Alternately, ride around a parking lot one handed on your bike. Sit steady in the seat and push forward fimrly but slowly with your left hand on the bars. Unsurprisingly, your bike will go left.

Find a flat straight road

Ride about 13 mph

push forward with right hand

See what happens.... ;)

(Front wheel turns left; body leans right; bike turns right - Where's the confusion?)

Most people are not consciously aware that they employ countersteering when riding their bike.

We all do it, but if you want a visual example, this page is the best for it:
http://www.vsa.cape.com/~wayg/mrep/csteer.htm

View the video... and than go "Ah! I do that all the time!".

But how do i start the counter-steer?

If I want to turn right, do I have to first turn right, to begin the counter-steer
left, and then turn right?

Then, do I have to counter-counter-counter steer?
I guess that you have to turn left, right, left, then right..... right?

:)
