Sorry for the cut and paste, but since the press release isn't on the Serotta web site yet, I'm just letting everyone know that Serotta very, very generously donated 8 Legend ST framesets with F3 forks to be used by the Beat Cancer 24-Hour RAAM Team (only a ride from San Diego to Flagstaff for the merely slightly insane) to be auctioned off afterwards to benefit the Breast Cancer Fund.

This merits many dancing bananas. A picture of one of the bikes is posted on the Serotta images section.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEROTTA BIKES TO SUPPORT BEAT CANCER TEAM TO TACKLE 24-HR RACE TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR THE BREAST CANCER FUND
San Diego, CA (June 11, 2006) – Raceplan Coaching and Racing and Swami’s Cycling announce the formation of the 2006 Beat Cancer Team, an eight-member cycling team that will race in the 2006 edition of the 24-hr Race Across America Relay from San Diego, California to Flagstaff, Arizona on June 11th, 2006.
As a dominant supporter of the Beat Cancer team, Serotta Bikes is donating eight custom pink colored Legend Ti frames to be raced by the team. The bikes will then be auctioned off and proceeds donated to The Breast Cancer Fund.
Other companies in support of the Beat Cancer Team are Capo Forma, Sigma Sports, B&L Bike and Sports, Clif Bar, Premier Nutrition, Uvex Helmets, Competitive Cyclist, Swami’s Cycling and Raceplan Coaching & Racing.
The Beat Cancer Team aims to challenge for the win while raising money for the Breast Cancer Fund in support of Erika Barajas, wife of teammate Albert Barajas, who has been battling cancer for more than three years.
“We are more than just eight guys riding through the desert in our pink outfits on top of pink Serotta bikes.” Said Kam Zardouzian, co-captain of both teams and founder of Raceplan Coaching and Racing. “This is our second year at this event. Last year we managed to complete the 494-mile course in about 25 hours and took a respectable second place to Team Clif Bar. But our biggest accomplishment was raising over $7,000 for the San Diego Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund. This year, with the support of Serotta, Capo Forma and all of our other sponsors, we have raised the stakes. Our goal is to surpass $30,000 for the Breast Cancer Fund and the entire team is wearing pink until we reach our goal.”
“Serotta Bikes is proud to help support the Beat Cancer Team on its endeavor to help raise money and awareness for the Breast Cancer Fund in support of Erika. We like that the team’s mission is to leverage cycling to do good and address a major issue facing all of us.” said Dave Powers, Global Sales and Marketing Director at Serotta.
The 24-hour Corporate Race Across America is an eight person relay race that covers 494 miles from the coast of Oceanside, California to the mountains of Flagstaff, Arizona. Team strategy and tactics will be important to help them survive the 110 degree temperatures of the desert during the day and the near freezing conditions of the mountains during the early mornings.
