I'm waiting for this answer also. Will it ever come to the Northeast?

Yes, of course, in Charlotte (2014) and also in Richmond in 2010.

I'm hoping for the Northeast one of these years ...

Not gonna happen. Don's made that pretty clear.

Hope it comes to Colorado next year!

It was amazing and so great to see some of the CO builders there such as Rich Gangl.

Seems that any place that has a Union backed exhibition hall is out-

really? what is the reasoning? i do suppose if you're having a show at the tail end of february, the weather in the northeast could be a big factor in the success of the show, is that it?

Thank you Bill. That is a very interesting thread.

Thank you Bill. That is a very interesting thread.

But it seems there are plenty of smaller cities in the NE that come to mind where it would be possible to take advantage of the concentration of builders and fans who have not had a NAHBS nearby. But it's Don's show and his call, so I will just consider year by year whether it's worth going again.

I'd go. Much of this Feb you could bike just about anywhere, great weather. But bring skis, just in case.

Interesting choice. I was there about this time about 10 or 11 years ago and it seemed like a decent place for both cycling and skiing.

My concern is whether enough builders are 'local' (within a day's drive) to make it there. Seems like a location for the spectators as much as the builders.

How was attendance at this year's show? Builders and spectators?

Montana and Oregon builder contingents are within reasonable driving distance. Della Santa is close also.

After the boondoggle that was the 2013 nahbs, I don't expect it to ever come back to colorado.

Providence perfect. Easy airport in an out, less chance of blizzard, plenty of money in NE corridor.

they have an annual NE bike show, where FF, 44 et al go on a Fri night.

Can you remind me of the issues. Went 2 days, seemed OK.

I think the issue was bad weather causing travel problems. No problems (that I remember hearing about) with the show itself.

That would be an interesting choice!

I'm bummed I missed this year and last year but both were for semi-legit reasons. Next year I plan to try hard to make it.

Reasonable distance, but is it a reasonable cost of entry and time spent away from the bench? I thought that's why many established builders no longer bother.

I was thinking Harrisburg, PA might make for a good location. Not the northeast, but perhaps close enough.

That's a very good question. It will always cost something and it's a matter of how much. The booth cost to me is not a big deal........it's the airfare, shipping and drayage. If I can drive and carry my stuff I can save all the airfare, I can save a good $1200 in shipping (about what I paid last time I think) and the drayage cost (moving my crate from the loading dock to the booth - $400 each way!!). So right there I can save a solid $3000 if Karin joins me. That just leaves the booth, lodging and food which isn't too bad.

It does of course take time away from the bench which has a real cost and the cheapest way to do this is to bring customer bikes that you were building anyway. It's still not free but it lowers the cost enough that it might be worthwhile.

I still need to think about it and get first hand reports about how well the show was run this past week but i'm certainly open to going next year because I can drive in a day easily.

Maybe the west shore.... Harrisburg is getting a bit unfriendly!
