clear coat on aluminum

is a clear coat as durable as paint on these frames? i am specifically asking about the cannondale frames. i live by the ocean and remember having some minor cosmetic corrosion on some aluminum parts.
if it isn't usually durable, is there a way to put a thicker layer or multiple applications to make it more so?

Durability is good. That said, I have noticed that of it gets a scratch it tends to corrode and look bad much quicker.

I had a CAAD 9 that had lots of spidering under the clear. Not enough to lift the paint but visible. I prefer paint.
