I'd like to replace my DA 9 crankset. After 5 years, the arms are very scuffed up, and in any case, the crank seems to have been misaligned from the first set up; try as I might, I can't seem to get the cranks on perfectly square (there's a deflection of about a quarter inch on the rings over half a rotation).

I'm going to stick with 53-39. What would be a good replacement in terms of value, durability, looks, weight, ease of maintenance, etc.? I'm expecting to replace the BB at the same time.

Thanks in advance!

Looks like you have selected a non-compact, and there are plenty of cranks out there that will meet your needs. Some examples are Ultegra or even Dura Ace. Another possibility is 105 or even FSA. I am assuming you are talking 9 speed, so someone like our own SPOKES might have some in inventory at a good price. Look and see what size you need. It is on the arm. Examples are 170 or 172.5.

Your budget and preference on looks will point you towards one. It is hard to find a bad one, even though many of us have our personal perferences on likes,.

new Ultegra 9spd dbls are less than $100 on-line and DA runs about $150. How can you beat that? You don't have to change/adjust anything-just bolt one on.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Why change. Ultegra is excellent gear you can get a new one on eBay for <$100.

But, I was astounded at the price for DA 10-speed brifters. $496!! Ouch. Almost twice the price of Record 10-speed brifters.
