Hey guys, I need you collective help. Can the rear spacing on an older frame be widened / spread to accept current rear hubs? Reason I ask is I have my old 80's paramount which I'd like to update to new a newer Shimano 10 speed gruppo. Rear spacing on the frame I believe to be 126mm. New hubs require 130mm (right?). Can this be done?

Ok, how? Is there any trick to doing it and how do I avoid throwing the frame out of alignment? Thanks in advance.

You could bring the frame to a framebuilder to check alignment and widen the rear spacing. I did that and it cost me $35 which I thought was reasonable.
Just a thought.
Ted.
