This interview is, in turns, extremely moving and really interesting. I was previously unacquainted with Steve Potts's personal life in any way. This only makes me respect him even more.

Sandy - that was a really good read, thanks for posting that.

Much respect for Mr. Potts - he's one of the good guys.

Thanks so much for posting.

Steve built my frameset over 2-1/2 years ago and to this day when our paths cross (we live and work in the same town) he will come over, say hello (remembering my name), ask how things are and how my wife (remembering her name) is doing.

Buying a frameset from Steve has turned into something much greater, as though I'm now part of his extended family having adopted one of his babies.

A truly special individual.

A lot of hard stuff in his life, that can't possibly be easy for anybody... tough to hear about his mom.

But seems to be living his life and hanging onto the right ropes each way. And making great bikes.

Great article, thanks for the link!

When I was putting together the Builder's Spotlight for Steve Potts he sent me his phone number and I had a very nice conversation with him. A great guy and definitely one of the top three people I would want to build a bike for me.

There's Mosaic and Firefly, but many forget about Steve Potts and Mike DeSalvo when it comes to Ti builds...

Steve Potts welds are something to marvel at... I will one day own one. This interview was purely eye opening to the struggles this man has endured. So good! I see a guy on Tam with a Potts 29er, and I've run into him multiple times and I'm in awe when I see that bike, among a sea of Carbon wonder bikes on Mt. Tam.

I bought a stem from him. My 4 year old son came with to his shop to pick the stem up. Steve had surgery on his knee, I think, and was hobbling around. But the guy took the time to get on one knee to look my son in eye and ask how he was doing and if he wanted to see something really cool. 100% in my book

Great interview. I've known about Potts since the 90s when I got into mtn biking, but never knew much of his personal history. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting!

The Horton Collection (one of the sponsors of NAHBS) will be displaying Brett Horton's new Steve Potts MTB at the show.

Always known and respected Mr Potts work, but learned more about him in that interview than everything else I’ve read in over 25 years!

Wishing him and his family all the BEST!

Wow, that interview is a testament to being a good person/man.

I used to pop in to Steve's old shop in MV, about the time he was going through some big stuff personally-- I had no idea, as he was always kind and would stop working to chat or answer some metal question. Big hats off to him for staying true to all he cares about.

^^^This exemplifies Steve. He's just a terrific human being. And a very talented builder.

Here's my Potts; thanks Steve!

The road frame is such a good value, considering he makes the fork too. I'll probably post these as a PSA in the classifieds. Would love to get one some day.

Great interview. The whole series of interviews is actually really good. It's great to see Daniel getting involved more, too. Having a line of "production" frames is awesome!

Here's my 2012 29er. Latest upgrade are the Paul skewers :)

Good to see this bike again, this is the one that tipped the scales for me leading to my own beloved Potts.

If you live around here, you well know the magnitude of his contribution. But to read that story - chapeau to him for life and for industry.

One of the first dream bikes I ever saw was a steve potts mtb mid-80s in wheelsmith location #2. Ric talked to me about it at length, but it was far far outside my budget. back then the $699 fisher hkek I ended up with was a strain.

Nice to see him get some press.

Every time I get on my '14 Potts 29er to grind up the Beaudry or Los Flores fire roads in the Verdugos by my house, I often think about the two road trips I made up to Pt. Reyes and the 11 month wait.

I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. Great bike, by one of the nicest and most sincere people I've ever met.

My only regret is that I would have gone with the rigid Type II if I were able to do it over again. Still, again, it's inspiring every time I ride it.
