i don't know why
but there seem to be particular scents
that have hit me hard this year!
january: salt
february: exhaust
march: rain
april: grass
may: lilacs
june: russian olives...
the olive trees are so sweet,
i've changed my route at noon
to take in the greatest number of trees possible!

I miss riding through the orange groves in Central Florida in the Spring. I also miss the smell of the beach.
But -- the lilacs and fresh air here in Colorado don't suck!
I missed the smells of sunscreen and sweat when I couldn't ride a few years ago.

I miss the smell of eucalyptus in SoCal, although -horrors- its an invasive species.
Lately around here I've been riding past mint fields... makes me want a mojito. And often on a soft summers evening, if the wind is just right, well... they don't call this place Cow-vallis for nothing.

Certainly not the best, just what my nose is used to detecting: roadkill.
Though my reading vision has deteriorated my sense of smell is as good as any turkey vulture.

or
all the cow pastures around here
(score -- one of my AP students raises cattle...he has 50 head, his dad a few hundred...all of the cattle around here are grass-fed, and most of the land is for cattle -- cotton and soybeans are a distant second togther. they know all the other cattle farners, so I talked to them about how to find some no-hormone, grass-fed, local beef. got the hook up, bro)
