I don't get it, you can do it with just regular pliers, you can do it with those pliers they used in the video, no need for binder clip parts.

I've been using an old bent spoke...have a lot more of those sitting around.

I don't like using pliers directly on the chain.

The SRAM 9-spd quick links I've been using (on Shimano chains) don't require any tools at all, and I haven't had any problems with them releasing accidentally.

I am an idiot, I have been using a brake cable with two sets of pliers. Pliers by themselves never worked for me either. Leave it to those pesky rooskies to find a simple solution to our convoluted capitalists schemes. I told you they were the greatest threat we face today! I am divesting from the kmc missing link removal and connector tools.

But seriously thanks for posting this, very useful!

Divesting, good word.

Like 5 eyars ago maybe kmc changed the design of the missing link, refused to buy the tool to open this things and as many I was using a set of pliers, not ideal but it worked, the other day somebody said he was doing it using a piece of cable, now this.

We need a DIY tools section sticky. A lot easier to pass along tips and find solutions that way.

Love it. At least in small part, happiness be using a paper clip to work on your bike.

The installation and removal pliers were $14 for the set. Really easy and quick with the right tools.

No need for the installation pliers (standing on pedal enough to close)
And now no need for removal pliers :)

I have a binder clip that I will sell for only $10, including shipping + PP! ;)

This works with road 10-speed? I know some of the older 8 or 9 speed links could come apart with just pliers.

That clip has two "tools", so looks like a deal to me!

Wait, you need pliers in addition to the binder clip?

I can find my quick link pliers faster than I can find a binder clip and some needle nose pliers :p

I can find my quick link pliers faster than I can find a binder clip and some needle nose pliers :pagreed, and those binder clips aren't cheap unless you steal one from work

But for those without the special pliers, this is a neat trick

Seems like a lot of effort to complete a simple task.

unfortunately, the KMC quicklink makes a simple task a lot of effort...ugh...the SRAM links is easy with just a pinch..as someone who's struggled with KMC links, I appreciate the tip!

Time is money. I will stick to my Park pliers. I have used them since 10 speed one time only links.
