Last night, just for grins, I was looking at custom bike builders in my area a discovered that Andy Gilmour's shop is less than half a block from my office. I've driven past it a thousand times and didn't even know it was there. Until today, when I was looking for it and saw a frame and some forks in a window.

^^^^I know that seat and bars should match, but I think in this case it works. He seems to build a very pretty bike. Does anyone have experience with his stuff and or service?

I've had a Gilmour. I don't remember why I sold it (sizing? time for something new?), but I liked it.

don't know him, but his website's impressive enough. if no one here can help, i'd think the folks at fairwheel bikes there in tucson would know him. sounds like he's been around a while.
best of luck. would be nice to have good builder next door!

I have a Gilmour frame ( for about a dozen years). Been unbuilt for last five. Made of Reynolds 653 and rides like a dream. It is traditional sized tubing, so a bit soft, and I'm also a bit heavier. Wonderful all day frame. I'm picking paint to re-finishing. My ex-wife had one as well, preferred it over her Serotta Nova Special. Buy one. Great frames and he works in various materials now, and very reasonably priced.

That's a very good deal for that bike.

Here's an old pic of my Gilmour...was taken before final adjustments/tape/wheels.

It's an old 80's team frame...typical small tube sizes...still rides decently well though.

Will do. I emailed him this afternoon about a fitting session. I have not heard back yet.

Andy had some rough early bikes, probably because he was just learning the craft and wasn't afraid to experiment, but the bikes he builds now are workmanlike and meant to be ridden.

I'm late to this discussion, but I live in Tucson and had Andy build me a lugged frame made of the newish Columbus SL Niobium with a custom straight steel fork. I have now had the bike for a couple of years and have ridden it extensively.

Like many of you, I have ridden and raced many framesets (including a lugged SLX De Rosa, aluminum Bianchi EV2, carbon and aluminum Giant TCRs, Colnago C-40, Look 585, Colnago C-59, and others), and the Gilmour is simply the nicest all-around frameset I have experienced.

I don't think that it is due to its custom geometry (as I tend to fit stock sizes and had Andy generally follow my Colnago's geometry, but with a slightly lower top tube). It just seems to be a perfect balance of responsiveness and comfort- It feels solid and smooth but light at the same time, has great handling, and is extremely well crafted--

I'd post some photos, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet . . .

I have also an experience of Gilmour bike. It's such a simple and good quality bike.I am very much comfort with it.But in recent i bought a Schwinn Men’s Volare 1200 700C Flat Bar Road Bicycle. It is also an excellent bike like as Galimour. It has a Aluminum frame and rigid fork,Great rear derailleur and smooth gear shifters.I've done a lot of research on this.
