being about a foot down on rainfall for the past 12 months I'd gladly
put up with a little rain. Hell I'd put up with a lot of rain.

what is this recovery day you speak of?

I think Massachusetts has gone from about a foot down, to about a foot over, in the space of a month. It's not funny anymore.

This morning made three "rides" in a row on the trainer for me. I'm hoping that Friday morning won't be a washout...

If there's not thunder, what's wrong with a little ride in the rain?

A ride in the rain assumes that roads are not under water so deep you can't easily ride through and that bridges aren't closed due to structural damage form the last couple of rain storms.

Mentally, I find it VERY hard to do the trainer thing.

And I am REALLY kicking myself for deciding I was too tired to go out last night. Looks like the next dry day will be Sunday.

ARRGGHH! :crap: :crap: :crap:

On the other hand, I guess it gives us more time to go visit obtuse at work.

I thought you were a hardened Belgian pro. Your an obtuse weenie. Drag out your fixed gear with fenders and the really small gear and get your @ss outside. :)

Oh, and the rest of you are all weenies too. :)

I'll ride in high heat and extreme cold. I'll ride on ice. But I'm definitely a weenie when it comes to riding in the rain. I've had a few miserable rain rides (one where a rider told me, "I like it when the cars go by - The spray they're kicking up from the road is warming me up...") that have left me gun-shy.

I need better rainwear and a bike with fenders, I think. Until then, I hate the rain.

dude-
a zone 1 60 minute recovery ride in the rain sucks in ways you can not believe. hard days in the rain are fine; they're like any other hard day; hard.....spinning around in the rain will just make you sick.

plus the "scenery" isn't out in the rain around this college town.

any time someone complains about the rain, us folk from the PNW gotta pipe in and call ya'll weenies. We're hard wired to do so. With that said, it's June. No one should have to ride in the rain in June.

I hope the scenery returns soon. :D

There has been some major scenery to be seen in Minneapolis in the past few days. The talent is out in force.

I think thats cuz we're a little jealous that some people actually have a choice of not riding in the rain!

If we didn't ride in the rain our riding days would decrease by at least a factor of 10.
That said I have little tolerance for the rain and my rain bike this time of year. It's friggin June !!!!!!!!

boston rainfall average 44 inches

seattle rainfall average 36 inches

it just rains more often out there; but when it rains here it pours.

It is true that it rains way harder in the Northeast than here in the Northwest. It would likely scare away all the hooch from Newbury Street, the best scenery in Boston.

Boston cliche during heavy rain: "Imagine if this was snow!"

A guy who worked for me, years ago, used to come into the office during snowstorms saying, "Imagine if this was rain!" Smart-@ss Allstonian...

hey, you're talkin' to a weather geek here... I think it would, at least inland of 495. Its got all the ingredients- low pressure southeast of the "benchmark" of 40n/70w, high pressure over the adirondacks, etc. Problem with most of the storms this winter was lack of canadian high pressure to feed the coastal storms the arctic air. Strangely enough, despite global warming, many very smart people predict increased snowfall over the next decade in new england.

Tom

Except the high pressure over the Adirondacks seems to have made squeaking sounds and beat a retreat to Manitoba. It's pouring here.

I guess when you live somewhere for a while, you get good at predicting what's going to happen... they make a forecast around here, I go out and stand in my driveway for ten seconds and say "No, it's not." or "Yup." I think I'm right more than even the Albany NWS office, who are pretty good.

"pissah" means actually means wicked! Which means, good! This rain isn't pissah, wicked or good, it just plain sucks!

The issue in the PNW isn't just the rain, it's the cold PLUS the rain. I got caught last Thursday in several severe downpours. The difference was it was nearly 60 degrees. Huge difference from the winter months.

We've had plenty of rain for June as it is. I rode my rain bike again this Sunday. That crap is gonna end for sure in a couple weeks :-)

We ride along the top, get off the bikes and enjoy a powerbar while looking over the span to the rushing water below us. What a hoot!
