View Full Version : What parts do I need to swap crankset for PM?

I'm swapping out a Campy Chorus 11sp UT crankset for a power meter, a Quarq Elsa. The PM is a BB30, the bike has a PF30. I was told I need a "very specific washer" to make this work. Took it into the shop, they ordered what I thought was going to be a washer. Turns out they got me what appears to be a full Sram BB shell. Do I need the full shell (at $60) or am I really just looking for a washer set (at something that has to be less than that)? Anyone know about doing this? What do I need?
Thanks...

You probably had something like this:

http://www.competitivecyclist.com/campagnolo-ultra-torque-bb30-adapter

Your going to need a standard PF30 like:

http://www.competitivecyclist.com/sram-pf30-bottom-bracket?CMP_ID=PD_BNc014BR&CSPID=0916&utm_source=Bing&utm_medium=PSBR&gclid=CMG8jY7q7soCFcGpMgodhbkOuw&gclsrc=ds

So yes, they are right. No special washer is going to make that work on the Campy pf cups.

Except for mine being red, that looks like what came out of the box.

this is most likely the spacer you need (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SRAM-Truvativ-BB30-PF30-Crank-Arm-Spindle-Spacer-Drive-Side-9-11mm-/331702905852?hash=item4d3b08abfc:g:Mi8AAOxy69JTEa0 k) if you are trying to install a quarq on a pf30 bb...just gotta figure out which size you need, I'm guessing the smaller of the two.

If hes got Campy cups currentlly pressed in, those need to be replaced .

I was told I need a "very specific washer" to make this work.

I would take zero advice from whomever told you that. That's about as wrong as wrong can be. But it seems that the bike shop ordered what you needed (although you can get it for $35 online, and not $60).

I told him that based on my assumption that the bike had been delivered with DA9000 on a wheels mfg adapter to a true SRAM PF30 BB. Because that is how the bike was born. In which case he would have only needed the washers that were deleted due to the adapter.

The bike had been changed to Campy and the OP now has the knowledge to get his new cranks in working order on that bicycle.

In which case he would have only needed the washers that were deleted due to the adapter.and then it is totally right. BB30 requires the wavy washer and possibly a few of those thin spacers. I've never owned a quarq BB30 but have owned several sram BB30 cranksets and they were all this way.

In that case, that's true!

And by the way, the Wheels Manufacturing BB30 adaptors are the best fix I've found for BB30 bikes. Whether it's Shimano or Campagnolo, the stuff just works (and the Campagnolo BB30 cups do creak in time). Zero issues running Dura Ace 9000 and Campagnolo cranks on the same frame- just different inserts.

Quarq BB30 are like S900/Force22... Spindle is longer, no wavy washer. (unless used in a BB386 frame)

And SRM uses a rotary adjuster on both their SRAM and Rotor BB30 power meters. The SRAM uses a spacer on the DS only, while the Rotor has them on both sides.

Ain't standards great???

Thanks everyone. All is good. I have what I need. That's what I get for using that cheap Campy crap. ;)
