talking standard 1 1/8" straight, or a 1 1/8" - 1 1/4" tapered. Surely Enve isn't the only game in town.

Something carbon, high quality, and preferably matte without logos. the Reynolds Ouzo seem to have lots of happy buyers.

Seven makes a nice fork and you could have them do a matte finish. My Seven fork has a glossy clear but they had no problem keeping logos off.

Wow, I'm really out of the loop: Much to my surprise, Easton no longer seems to offer a road fork...but Wound Up still does! I gotta get out more.

Edit: 3T offers road forks and Mike Lopez (via Holland Cycles) does too. Also looks like Lynskey jumped into this market.

Whisky has a bunch of different options. I've owned a No 9 disc and it was really nice.

Apple pal, no, it isn't... as much as they and others would like us to believe. Same with Rapha. :D

I just realized how many aftermarket fork manufactures are no longer in this market: Time, Look, Reynolds, Easton and Bontrager come to mind.

Pegoretti falz.

If you're into an EC90SLX for, I've got one for $110 to your door...

Good point, I had one on my Merckx Team SC. Totally solid fork.

I have two forks on two frames: ENVE and 3T (not the lightest one they offer, the second lightest one I think). I also have an older Reynolds Ouzo something but that got put back on a different frame.

I'm happy with both the ENVE and the 3T.

My favorite fork, but I think it had to do with the whole frame/fork system, was a tapered Cannondale Slice fork, 1-1/8" to 1-1/2"?. SystemSix frameset, 2008. Absolutely the most stable/predictable front end when dealing with corners. If I could I'd replicate that front end for my ultimate frameset. I have no idea who makes that fork for them, assuming they farmed it out in 2007-2008.

My current forks are 1-1/8" non-tapered and the frame isn't as stiff as the Cannondale so in turns the bike does want to move around a touch. Similar to the TCRs I have (one has that Reynolds Ouzo fork I mentioned earlier).

Yup. Both for straight and curved blades, whatever your flavor.

Lots of options thanks a lot. I'm liking Whiskey, looks solid, but they don't make tapered it appears.

anyone have a good carbon tapered matte-ish fork out there?

^^^ Sure - Enve!

The Look HSC6 is tapered, too, but good luck finding one.

Matte a Columbus Grammy?

I think this is the most handsome fork on the market right now.

Moots. (http://moots.myshopify.com/collections/forks)

The old straight 1 1/8 fork is on sale.
The new tapered fork is matte black.

fwiw I just ordered a tapered fork. My near-new 1 1/8 fork will be looking for a new home in a couple weeks if anyone is interested - it has tons of tire room with the right brake caliper.

Planet X has them for $275 (http://www.planet-x-usa.com/i/q/FOCOGCMN/columbus-grammy-monocoque-carbon-fork) :)

Or go through your local builder. Do note, this is how they look stock though - you'll need to matte paint it:

Just get a 44mm headtube and use a CK i7.

check out TRPs forks

thru axle option and nice aesthetics, with interesting cable routing

Also Seven Cycles has a new carbon fork out, eyelets for fenders, bolt route for big lights, and can do options for say generator hub wire routing

cheers

I'm pretty unfamiliar with the headset area, usually just have a shop set it and forget it. so with a 44mm HT, i7 + 1.5 tapered = i8 + 1.25 tapered? same exterior and visual result? is one preferable over the other?

Yes i7 is for 1.5 taper and i8 is for 1.25 taper. They both fit in 44mm head tubes.

The i7 has a slightly larger dia on the bottom cup.
The 1.5 taper fork crown is 5mm wider than the 1.25 crown (this is enve numbers, don't know other manufacturers stats if they offer both fork tapers).

I think bigger = stiffer?

But as long as the headtube is the same (44mm), I believe the visual will be identical. The only thing that will really change is the cup...and that's a slight difference. i8 and i7 look identical to me.

Right. I'm only speaking to the aesthetics.

Functionally, OP - you must make sure the id of the cups match up with the fork's od.

You got it right the first time.

So one of the bikes I am looking at the builder says the 44mm ht is "built around" an i8 + 1.25 taper. I would hate to go against what the builder says, but if it's all the same otherwise, maybe I should just go with whatever combo is cheaper...?

You could yes.

The builder perhaps just wanted the more slender look of the i8 vs the i7 and the forks to go with them (speculating here). If thin tubes i would go with i8 vs i7 but I'm not sure i could visually claim one looks better than the other even on slim tubed bikes.

Because I prefer to type on here. Haha. But yeah on your suggestion just called, sounds like it doesn't matter, it's just that that's how they do it.

So I'm probably going to pick up one of those columbus forks, anyone have an inset 7 for sale in black? edit: found one!
