My googlefu is failing. What are the traditional racing colors of Peugeot? I have a late '80's frame that I'm going to send in for powder this week though it's not a race bike I'd like to at least be close to a French standard. I had intended to go green on the main tubes and khaki on the head and seat tube but that seems too English.

The obvious. White & black racing chequer.

Also a Ruby Red, a Forest Green and Sky Blue, from memory. All colours were simple, based on primary mixes and looked substantially lighter than others. There may also have been a primary yellow. Peugeot's in Australia also came in an orange colour, lighter and a little more tangerine than Merckx'.

Nice to see you are still with us Chris.

I would have thought blue like an Elf Tyrrell but don't really know what the racing bikes wore.

I have a friend who knows a lot about French bikes. I'll see what he says.

You could go with the original blue/yellow.

for the eighties, the well-known black/white is a given. PY also came in a subdued gold.

I'm still around I don't always log in but I check in to see what's going on. I'm finally getting off my butt and building the Basso cross bike and this pug so I'll probably be around a bit more. The pug will be racks, lights, and Shimano and the Basso will be Campy 10 It's only been 3 years for the cross and 18 months for the pug

Thanks for checking into it for me I'm going to strip it tonight and start polishing all the stonglight stuff.

Blue and yellow and blue and white were pretty common for their jersey colors. White bikes with checkered trim and rainbow stripes were the rage when I was a wee one.

Silver is also very classic.

My brother raced on a green PX10--early 70s--but I don't know if there were any race teams using them. It is a great shade of green--not quite a British Racing Green with a nice metallic base.

The white with the black checkerboard was the iconic color though--Tommy Simpson, the young Eddy et all raced on those. Famous white and black jerseys and caps to match.

Found a picture (not my brother's)--this has been photoshopped so it looks a little bright:

The "traditional" Peugeot would be the one from their glory days in the fifties, and those were white with checkered black and white panels and black decals. Great piece of cycling history.

THAT'S fine-looking! Wow!

As for the classic schemes for bikes, white or silver with black are what always come to mind for me.

Right now I think either the blue or the pretty emerald green for the main tubes and silver for the head and seat. I think either color on the main tubes would make the chrome fenders and the polished rack, bars, stem, crank pop which is what I want people to see first. My lowball on some new polished 2x9 Microshifts (direct from China ) was accepted which sorta makes the need for the shiny bits to pop even more emphatic.

Here is how it stands now

He thought a lightish medium blue was used for the 1988 team bikes. I kind of like the green myself.
