I really like nitto water bottle cages.

They are so beautiful

They don't work any better than the mighty stainless king cage, but they work plenty good enough for me.

Just noticed that they have a new to me model, the 80, it a tubular version of the R

Anyone have these? I imagine they are a little stiffer than the smaller diameter R cage. Maybe hold bottles a little better.

I've got a pair of the standard 'R' on a bike that gets a lot of use... and have had 'em for probably 6-7 years.

Have never had a bottle pop out, or have any sense that they're now 'looser' than when new... and haven't noted any water bottle discoloration from the metal tubing.

IMO I'd save the $20 per cage.

I had those on a rando bike that I sold a few years ago. As I recall, they were stiffer than the standard cage, but not significantly so. And they were a lot less money back then.

I should have kept them as I doubt I'd ever spend $90 for a bottle cage now.

something about 90 dollar water bottle cages makes me giggle, oh well.

i have been using the touring cages and like them, some bottles rattle a bit though.

I still have one!

I'd forgotten about the one on my 650B Speedster. It's so similar to the conventional cage that it's hard to tell the difference unless you compare them side to side. As I mentioned above, the tubular cage is a little stiffer, but essentially the same as the solid wire version. For a worthy bike, it might be worth the indulgence to spend a bit more for the tubular cage.

Would never shell out $90 for a carbon bottle cage, but will probably try and pick up those Nitto ones for my next bike!

Where the upper curves approach each other, do they actually meet and are they welded? I couldn't be sure from the photos angle. If so, they're their own beast, but if not, they're pretty similar to the Arundel stainless cages, which are a lot less costly and, I think, just as nice-looking.

And hold the bottle very tightly, yes.

These?

well they are beefier the the Nittos.

I like the filigree looks of the Nittos which go nicely with classic tubing. On a bulkier modern frame, they may look spindly and the Arundel would fit better.

yes its pretty and I am sure it is well made but $90 is just obnoxious. Also they claim ultralight but there is nothing ultralight about 42g.

The king cage TI, they are pretty damn light, I just got a pair and they are really awesome and I already think those are expensive.

I have one of each of these, the R and the 80. I got the R used at reasonable price. Then in lapse of fiscal sanity paid the obscene price for the 80. Agree that the R is a little dainty-looking on standard OS tubes. The 80 is only slightly thicker-not as thick as King- but enough to change the aesthetic. It does look and function very nicely. I cant bring myself to buy another to match though.

i think that the most it is reasonable to spend on a cage is $18 dollars for a stainless king.

however,

I think that those nitto cages are much better looking

those arundel cages are really ugly

the king ti ones look kinda beefy to me, good for huge tubed ti bikes

as far as the cages being lightweight, well, nitto has an old school perspective on that

There are also Mariposa cages for $69.

https://mariposabicycles.ca/shop/mariposa-water-bottle-cages/

"Handmade chrome plated water bottle cage. Made with lightweight aviation tubing in our Toronto workshop. A water bottle cage needs to do one thing: hold a bottle over any road surface. Most modern cages can't do that as weight and style are put before function. The Mariposa cage, designed by Mike Sr. and Michael in the workshop and tested over rough roads and trails, is not only elegant but will also stay on your bike over the bumpiest terrain."

I have them on 2 bikes, one bike has 30,000 or more miles on it and the cages are fine. I have used it on all surfaces and have yet to have a bottle pop out. I should mention I paid cost for them a few years back. There is no way I would pay $80 for a bottle cage.

is the Elite Ciussi Inox still available?

http://www.elite-it.com/en/products/bottle-cages/metal-inox/ciussi-inox

i removed the red "coins" on 2 of mine for optics, but the bottle-holding ability suffered. Could possibly be inmproved by some cold forging, tho.
