Looking to pick up a bike tomorrow for what I think is a pretty good deal. Wondering what people think and its worth.

1993 Merckx Corsa Extra in excellent condition. 57.5 cm Columbus SLX frame with internal cable routing. There are some chips in the paint that can be touched up with nail polish. I have chosen to keep the paint original, since in the 10 years I've owned it it has lived in my living room and never been ridden in the rain. Paint shines brightly, and so do the components. Everything but the tires, grip tape and pedals are original and period correct.

Has a Campagnolo Chorus group set, which back then was a mix of Chorus and Record components, and Athena brakes. Campagnolo Record Shamal wheels. Cinelli handlebars, stem and tape. San Marco Regale titanium saddle. Continental Grand Prix 4000 tires in good shape. Pedals are MKS with toe clips and Campagnolo straps.

Gear shifts are superb, Record hubs are in awesome shape and spin very smoothly. Tuned up at Pedal Power last summer, rode less than 30 miles since.

Thanks for any and all help.

Your picture link doesnt work.

Without seeing it its hard to say. Team paint scheme?
9 speed?

I'd probably say $750-1000 is a good deal if the shamals are 9/10 speed compatible and the frame is in good shape.

Those are chorus brakes not athena.

Looks like a whole chorus 8 speed group.

I'd say its worth about 1100-1200 to the right buyer.
A good deal would be 700-900

You are going to get a nice bike.

Oh my. That's a pretty one. Worth is a relative thing. Take it for a spin around the parking lot and let the bike tell you if it's worth it.

Excellent advice! Let the bike tell you... got to remember that.

One more bit of advice, admittedly subjective and biased: buy the bejeezus out of that thing. You won't be sorry.

P.S. Fizik fluorescent green bar tape is practically indistinguishable from the green flashes in the paint. It makes a most pleasing look.

I'm confused. You are buying this bike or you already
own it?

I don't think you need anyone here to wax poetic about that bike. It's a beautiful specimen, and if that's what you have been craving in your collection, you should jump on it.

Beautiful bike.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I was actually going to purchase it and list on ebay. I need funds to buy wheels :(

I honestly thought it would be worth more than $2k on ebay.

I think with those scratches, you'd be lucky to see $1000.

Total junk. The pedals and saddle won't work for me.

I don't think you'd get more than the CL asking on eBay. Even that might take a few weeks.

Good luck on the wheel funding!

In the end I decided to pass on the deal. Would have loved to keep it as it looks like a great bike to take out on those early Saturday morning summer rides.

If your intent was to flip it for a profit, then you made the right decision. That bike has been languishing unsold on Craigslist for a very long time.
