Man, just read about this. So sad. Truly a legend in BMX. And leaves behind a wife and two kids. Tragic.

Self inflicted gun shot wound in his truck in North Carolina. Think he was visiting friends and he was found in his truck.

No, he lived in Greenville, NC. I went to college in the late 90s there and we would run into him all the time. I worked at Circuit City while in school and him and his friends would always come in and buy stuff. He was always a super nice guy. Very sad.

So sad. He was a legend and my favorite rider back in the day. RIP.

Also, in case anyone wants to update the post, his last name is spelled "Mirra".

He got me into BMX as a kid and now I am bike mechanic going on 14 years now. I wouldn't be who I am if I hadn't have watched him live at the x-games in San Fransisco. RIP Dave, you will be missed :(

aw man, w t f. a buddy of mine is a good friend of Dave's and was telling me about how he recently started doing triathlons and long distance riding. I wonder if the number of concussions he suffered over the years lead to CTE or other issue leading to mental instability.

Heartbroken. He is a local CNY legend. His aunt is a coworker. Her office is a shrine to him. I am dreading the walk to see her tomorrow.

I didn't know Dave that well, but I raced his 2nd rally ever with him and we were team mates on Subaru in 2008 and 2009 when I was sitting with Travis and he had Alex Kihurani riding shotgun.

I will say that Dave's love for Syracuse was unbounded. I used to joke that, like the office triathlete, "How do you know Dave Mirra is from Syracuse? Oh, don't worry, he'll tell you." He used to talk about CNY all the time.

He was a great guy and will certainly be missed. I'm terribly sad for Lauren and the girls. RIP.

me too. after watching the crash reel (great doc), it really changed my whole opinion of extreme sports. the number of whacks to the head these guys take is astounding.

I always enjoyed watching him ride (or fly), wishing I had the balls and/or creativity to try what he was about to land.

Not a bad theory but who knows why people commit suicide. Recently the star French-Swiss chef Benoit Violier who I read about in NYT did himself in as well and cooking isn't exactly a contact sport. He had everything going for him, makes you wonder.

That is terrible news, i really enjoyed watching him every summer in the x-games. Was always one of my favorites along with TJ Lavin and Ryan Nyquest.
