Semi-retired, not drawing Social Security yet, but on Medicare. I consult for Boston Metro Area startups and receive 1099. Quarterly on consulting income, I've paid federal and state taxes, Social Security - both halves, and Medicare tax. Since I'm on Medicare and paying for Part B, am I still required to pay the Medicare portion?
Since many of us Forumites are Senior Members, I thought this might be a good general question.
Thanks,
Chris

No tax expert but I'm 77, collecting SS, on Medicare and working part time.
I'm still paying Medicare tax.

I am not a tax accountant but am a CPA. The attached link indicates that medicare taxes for employees must be withheld and paid by their employers, and that independent contractors must pay their own medicare taxes. I believe that is the correct treatment.

Please advise if this is true.

I am an insurance broker and heard a rumor about this.
