Vicious Cycles

Vicious is still in business. I was just there today. Still making frames, painting, powder coating, also doing aluminum bikes now. Also Metal Guru frame building school. Same owner as always.

Super cool website. Who knew Oakley owns Ray Ban, Giant builds some of Colnago's frames, Fuji does Kestrel and Fizik owns Brooks. I had no clue!

Redline. Yes, they still make BMX bikes, but they were trying to make in-roads into cross bikes and according to a friend who writes for a cx mag, they put millions into cross racing - sponsoring riders, races and other events.

Well for 2016, they pulled the plug. I guess they couldn't sell enough units to make up for the losses. This is a huge loss.

I thought Tommaso was the house brand for Ten Speed Drive Imports and built by Billato.

611 out of Roanoke? Always wondered if he closed up shop.

Also Coho. Charles Latham retired.

Tom Teesdale (RIP)

The British frame makers--barely can find any left. Mercian keeps on though. The last one to disappear (although they are saying sabbatical) was Roberts (http://www.robertscycles.com/).

Blue

Gone or change owners? I had some really interesting dealings with Blue when I owned the shop..not good dealings at all.
Ahh, looked it up..new owners. The old guys were divers, owned by PSI, sourced dive equipment from Asia, decided to try bikes..what a bunch of maroons.

Using that line of logic could eliminate a number of companies, eh?

Ibis was sold to an investment group, and Scot Nicol took the money and went on an extended vacation. New owners ran the company into the ground in short order, and Scot bought it back for a fraction of what he sold it for.

They were gone for a year or two, then there was a reboot after the ownership change. I'm not sure if the reboot is still going.

Bridgestone doesn't have a US. Operation but they still make bikes in Japan, primarily utility bikes. This is the same as the tire company that also owns Firestone and is buying Pep
Boys. They are also a manufacturer of golf equipment.

Grant Petersen managed the US Bridgestone operation until they closed it, largely due to foreign currency fluctuations making it unprofitable.

Masi - may be more than 10 years ago, I don't remember the details or the time line.

A couple from significantly longer ago than 10 years:

Cinelli (from Cino Cinelli to the Colombo family)
Pogliaghi (from Sante Pogliaghi to the Basso Bros. to nonexistent)

If you go to the bassobikes.com website you will see that they still have some Pogliaghi bikes (go to the 'shop' page - maybe not currently in production?).
