"Australia痴 female cyclist Bridie O奪onnell today set a new mark for the UCI Hour Record with a distance of 46.882 km covered at the Adelaide痴 Super-Drome, in Australia.

The 41-year old athlete rode 609 metres further than the previous record of 46.274, established four months ago by American rider Molly Shaffer Van Houweling in Aguascalientes, Mexico."

I was hoping she beat his record.

That's impressive. About a 1 second spread.

The most impressive part to me personally was at the end of it, she was able to get off her bike on her own, lift up the bike, and walk...guys like Jens, Wiggo on the other hand...:D

Well, you have to account for the gearing the men were using too, is not easy to move 58x14 that is what they say wiggo used. I believe jens used 55x14.

Molly Shaffer Van Houweling used 56x14 for the previous record. Not clear yet what Bridie O'Donnell used but it has to be in the same ballpark. They are only about 7% slower than Wiggo...

Thinking about the gearing used really drives it home for me. I couldn't push any of those gears for 5 minutes let alone 60.

Molly will be back for an attempt to regain the title. Plus others women are getting ready for an attempt. We are going to have an exciting year.

Yeah, you really have to keep your splits close - otherwise you're just not going to make it.

I tossed her splits into a spreadsheet and did some rearranging and there's some interesting stuff. Overall she does keep almost all of her laps within 1 second of each other, which is to be expected, but there are very very few outliers. What's more interesting is how little she even has longer-term drifts, and when they do, they're negative splits - getting faster. Ditch the first lap and her rolling average gets up to 19.2 pretty fast, and then just slowly slowly slowly slowly comes down to 19.15 over the course of her hour. Super impressive - she starts out doing a lot of 19.4 second laps but in the second half of the race she's doing a lot of 19.0s.

What that means is that she's doing for an hour lap splits, and consistency, that a lot of very, very good bike racers can't do for an individual pursuit.

56x14?? thats a heck of a gearing... Cant even imagine it, doubt i would be able to move it even for the 1st lap :D
