So I received a 520 for the holidays and it came with the extended out front mount (https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-by-accessories/mounts/extended-out-front-bike-mount/prod136771.html#gallery-dialog)

https://static.garmincdn.com/en/products/010-11251-40/g/cf-lg.jpg

Looking to get a second mount for another bike, rather than the ones that come with the Garmin and mount on the stem/bars.

So what do folks like? K-Edge? Garmin? BarFly? Why?

I've only ever had the Garmin Out Front mount. It's been perfectly solid for me so I've never had a need to try any of the others.

Have Garmin, SRAM, WoMo, and K-Edge out front mounts. Prefer K-Edge XL for general use - accommodates all Garmin models and more room to get to 520 rear buttons. WoMo is great for bundling "stuff" with adapters - Garmin, USB battery for extended rides, camera, light. Especially good for camera because rock solid.

Ditto... excellent quality, super solid. Wish they made a light with a garmin mount so I could put it on one of these!

The K-edge has the nicest finish but as noted, if you are buying new then go with the XL not the aero to easier access the 520 bottom buttons. It is possible to get the buttons when mounted on an aero - easiest using the left hand cupping from under neath and using a finger

Also consider if you will be mounting a light, junction box, gopro on the underside.

Depends on how I want it to match my bike. K-Edge colored ones to add flare for certain bikes and Garmin mount for the matte finish bikes :)

I like the barfly for the fact that it puts the computer on the same horizontal center line as the stem rather than above.

Ditto for the new Barfly, the 2.0. I like also that it mounts to the left of the stem too, as I have the Di2 bartop remote shifters which mount on the right, and things got pretty crowded...
Plus it mounts the juntion box below, or a light, or a GoPro, or...

light and motion works i thin for their 800 and below models. i bought one thinking it'd work for the 1500... :crap:

I run this, as well. I prefer that the connection be on the lower plane (e.g. the k-edge setup) so the computer sits down and flush more with the stem. But it's hard to beat ~$15 and <20g.

So, ww build: sram mount, everything else: k-edge.

K-Edge mounts are the most solid I've encountered. Now that they have the replaceable plastic mount that doesn't kill Garmin tabs they are perfect. Agree the XL is the way to go for the latest computers, also the accessory mount is a good one to look into as mounting light and a camera from the front is a nice addition down the road.

Latest 2.0 barfly has gotten a lot more solid though it is still plastic.

SRAM's mount is pretty good for the money though.

Guess it depends on the budget?

The best/cleanest is the Enve out front mount atmo, but you have to be using an Enve stem. Anyone know of another mount that attaches to the stem faceplate for a cleaner look than the traditional out front mount?

I went through a GoPro phase so I got a Morsa.

Perfect for that application. For a Garmin alone it's only so-so. Two different screw points = two different places things can go slack.

Bump.

After well over a decade of riding with no device to record mileage or speed attached to any of my bikes, I'm thinking of getting a Garmin or something like it.

I too am looking for a mount attached to the faceplate....3T ARX Team specifically.

I'm guessing there's no standard bolt pattern for stems, so a mount not designed for a specific stem would fit...... well, none.

Fizik has a similar system to ENVE's faceplate mount for a lot less $$$

I had an 800 on a Barfly 1.0, which broke and sent my Garmin tumbling down the road at 30mph. They still haven't sent me a replacement. Now I use a SRM PC8, you know, the thing everyone is trying to copy.

Thanks for posting. Lead me to Barfly who have a direct stem bundle for 3T ARX2 stems.

bar fly here. Its fine nothing special but does the job.

I had the garmin one, better made than the bar fly but it broke so because of that I prefer the bar fly so far.

I do like the enve system which bar fly now has for the fizik stems, I know there is a guy in europe on weight weenies that does those for more stems (not sure he still at it but he used to, he started that a few years back)
