View Full Version : Easily removable LED headlight like older Dinotte?

I have one of the older Dinotte 200L lights that snaps onto a handlebar in seconds with an o-ring, and is connected by a short cord to a 4 AA battery pack, which sits in a small pouch that is ziptied to the stem. It's really easy to move this from bike to bike (I have pouches on more than one bike). But the batteries don't last very long and the rechargeables are unsatisfactory (have tried several)

So - what is a modern version of this light, easily movable, with, say, 150-200 lumens, and USB charging, and a lithium battery, preferably an 18650 size.

I have a generator light on my Big Dummy, the usual bike I ride at night. But It's nice to have a light I can throw on any bike in a pinch.

Exposure lights: quick release mount, long battery life even on high, PLENTY of Lumens at every (high) price point. NO EXTERNAL BATTERY PACK OR CABLES. They're not cheap but I'm a convert. I've had my Maxx-D for 8 years and it's bullet proof.

it has similar o-ring type mount closure and battery has its own velcro strap to mount on stem or bar, very easy and stays in place well
i have the box somewhere but i think is a micro newt or something like that

I use this with my Exposure Diablo:

I think it should work with any led light...much easier than niterider attachments

the base of the light uses these rings as pictured--loop around the bars just like older dinotte, but the tab makes it easier to use
I like it but there are lots of options

Ended up with this
http://www.fenix-store.com/fenix-bc21r-led-bike-light/

because:
- I have two Fenix products - a flashlight and a headlamp - and they are nicely made and durable
- This uses a removable standard Li-ion 18650 battery so can be easily replaced when the battery dies - same battery as in my other Fenix products
- Medium brightness is 200 lumens, equal to the max on the Dinotte 200L I'm replacing
- Good review on MTBR

nice choice, I love my fenix flashlight. Expensive yes but its a nice piece of hardware that looks like its going to last for a long long time

The price was $75 and I got $10 off from the Fenix Store as a first time purchase, so it didn't seem beyond the cost pale. Some of the lights mentioned here and elsewhere are over $200. I've found the 200 lumens of the Dinotte 200L adequate, and the Fenix will give 380 on high. I'm not riding fast or technical enough to need 1,200 lumens :-)

Can you reloop the strap so the light can go under the stem?

Would be interesting to see offerings if they made a rear light, specs look good and price seems reasonable for what you get.

I've been pretty unhappy with my twofish light holders. They were never secure and eventually failed. The one that's still working has been relegated to carrying an external battery to charge my garmin on long rides

Yes and no relooping of the strap is necessary. I just moved the rubber block from resting on top of the bar, placed the rubber block against the underside of the bar and re tightened the Velcro strap. Took all of 12 seconds.

I just recently got into night riding (20-25 mile loop on road, not trail) and picked up a Niterider Lumia 750 and am shocked at how good it is. I realized through trial and error that I wanted about 300 lumens most of the time, so I picked a light where the 300 was the medium setting as opposed to the high setting. This way I can get 3 hrs run time if needed on the most desired setting. But I must say that if there are no cars around, the 750 high setting is awesome. Plus I like the nice big blue button on top which turns red at 25%. I had a Light & Motion that was pretty good, but being color blind, having a status light change from green to yellow to amber to orange (or something like that) is totally useless. Then I put a Dinotte Quad Red on the back (which is also amazing), so I basically look like a tow truck driving around.

It takes me about five seconds to remove a Cygolite Expilion from the handlebars of one bike and another five seconds to install it on another bike.
