Have a complete SRAM X9 system for 8 speed I would like to swap over to another bike. Can the 8 speed shifter be rebuilt to work with 9 speed? Im "assuming" the RD will be fine as the travel should be the same.

Thanks!!

I'm sure it could be rigged to work if you could make/buy parts, but 9s shifters are cheap so it wouldn't be cost effective. RD will work fine between 8-9s.

I'm no sram expert but doesn't the 9 in X9 mean 9 speed?

this. mtb shifters are seriously cheap, just get one for the system you want to use and save yourself the headache.

I aren't either but there are X9 10s shifters, but don't think they made x9 in 8s...could be wrong.
