I have an early 2000 Marzocchi fork that looks to have a gasket leak from one of the bolts on the bottom of the fork. Only leaks during use. Nice honey colored oil by the way. Anyhow, my presumptions are

Air is used as a compressible gas replacing the need for springs, currently 30 psig more or less.

The oil is used to dampen the oscillations from compressions.

Since the oil does not leak while the bike is in storage there is no pressure leakage between the two systems.

I can invert the bike remove the leaking bolt and put on a new gasket without getting oil sprayed everywhere, correct??

Thanks, John
