I'm currently using a Deda Superzero seatpost; it functions perfectly well. But I have the urge to change it to something made from alloy i.e. the Nitto S83.

The problem is, all the components on my bike are black (stem, bars, chainset, mechs, wheels etc.) - will it look wrong? Convince me it won't! Pictures to accompany any reasoning appreciated aswell.

This is the seatpost in question

Deda Zero100 alloy post maybe? It comes in black I think...

Yeh, not enough setback (only 12mm) on the latest model.

The other option is the Fizik Cyrano. But there's something about that Nitto.....

The S83 is my favorite alloy post. They are available in black (edit: err, maybe not), albeit harder to find. I remember getting mine at benscycle though their website shows it as unavailable. Consider contacting them about the future availability of black.

If I'm running Nitto, it's going to be polished silver. That's part of their appeal.

Why do you want to change?
Velo-Orange (http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/seatposts/vo-grand-cru-seat-post-long-setback-1649.html) has a black alloy seatpost with a lot of setback.

I guess that's the reason really. Plus they look solid.

Very nice; although I believe that is the Jaguar seatpost?

You want someone to tell you to get the Nitto post? Happy to help.

Get the Nitto S83. It's a great seat post. You will love it.

My work is done here . . . .

It will look wrong, of course!
Actually, hard to tell without a pic of the current setup. But at least it's super easy to change back if people start pointing and laughing.

The Nitto S-65 Crystal Fellow seatpost comes in black.

Right, the current setup is pretty much as per this picture, apart from a lower headset top cap and I've stripped the logos from the seatpost. I think it looks boring to be honest.

boring? maybe but it looks nice, you put a silver post there its going to look weird, there is nothing else silver on the bike, not even wheel spokes.

want to spicy it up? put a gold chain in there.

or maybe some tan walled tires

You're right, it is the SP72. Had a mind lapse. I also have the s83 and S65. Note the S65 doesn't have as much setback as the other two.

I also agree that a silver post on your pictured ride wouldn't look right.

Personally, I think anything but a black seatpost would look very unbalanced to me. i say stick with black.

Personally, I think it might work. But I'm biased towards silver-polished parts.

I might try skinwalled tires first.

Keep the black post. Maybe find an Aliante and bar tape to match the Condor logo background blue. Quite frankly, it looks good as is...Monty Young would be proud.

silver would be weird looking!

A fairly unanimous repsonse!

I've just placed an order for a Nitto S83 seatpost :-D

May swap the crank arms for a polished silver set aswell; if I can find some second hand.

I would fasten that post to your machine and change all of the other components to silver before I would punt it, or locate a black NJSP72 from Alex Cycle. Nitto makes good post.

it'll probably look great with a silver post on and event better with silver brake lever blades, derailers and pedals. that and a plain black quality collar(like a dkg or somesuch).

or you could take the road less traveled: home anodization FTW! ;)

All components need to at least match one other component.

The Paul Tall & Handsome comes in black with loads of setback. Made in Chico and solves your silver/black conundrum.
