Spent the afternoon sewing on some elk hide from Orange Velo. After I got a Brooks C15 in rust, I've been thinking about having something stylish on my handlebars. I do wish it was a better tone match, but I think I can do some cleaning to lighten the color of the hide. It took about 2 hours total with one eye on the Steelers game. I think I'll look for a silver stem to match https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/92db4dd67b4af64088d3b2a940aa4453.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/15371b3acf5a5396953229d5ec1423cc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/f6748521121cfa19bced33bd780f2102.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/bf57512e86f501bf7bf0062acef34043.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/d33ea3f00064f8217f7eac34fca8fdd9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151227/cd1e66ba262a0d1b2dd49c1f735ce98d.jpg

Looks nice! How are you planning to match the colors?

That Steelers game was heartbreaking, ugh.

I used some polish to change the tint, but it is a bit too dark. Over time, I think cleaning will remove some of the polish.

I hope you really, really like those handlebars.

I've used the VO ELK elk hide wrap, really good stuff. I found it darkened with use and age.

Edit: I'd say don't worry about the color of the wrap, it appears to complement the saddle and rest of the bike rather nicely. Trying to matchey-matchey often turns out bad.

Nice job! I can't even commit to regular bar tape. End up changing my bars and tape every few months.

I'm not a bar changer, I've been using those Deda's for years.

Good to know. A very long time ago, I had some white Rhode Gear Handlebar Hide. If I like this wrap, I'm going to get some white full grain leather and spend way too much time punching tiny holes so that I can go back to white bars.

For a long time, I've thought about going back to a classic bend because I like the way it looks. Then I remember how much more comfortable my hands are with a rather ugly bend.

I'll bet you have a 5mm ferrule in the lever for the brake housing..bad..looking at the covering torn off the end of the housing..makes for funky seating of the housing and 'ought' to be removed. YES for shifter housing, 'no' for brake housing. ;)

Another bit of wisdom from the Forum elder statesman.

You don't have to spend too much time on punching the holes. Just get a multi-hole lacing punch.
