Very interesting....

Looks like the little control on the shifter flicks one more piece of cable for another shift.

I can't wait! Now I'll be able to put a 10t cog on my cassette!

I already did that. I filed down every other tooth from my 20t, since I don't use it after going to a compact crankset.

I think I'm one of the first to make their own 10t cog, but I'm willing to be an innovator.

I read recently (can't remember where) that Shimano has patents that cover up to 14 speeds.

At what point does it become painfully obvious to everyone that this “upgrading” is done not because we need the capability, but because it makes it difficult to maintain the older designs, and thus forces us to buy the newer stuff?

I’m waiting for the new 30 speed cassettes. I won’t buy anything until they can give me that – 5 tooth cog all the way up to 34 tooth cog. That will keep me happy…

It is really getting out of hand. Soon they will have to build bikes with 2 sidecars, one for a mechanic to keep the bike working, and one for a mathematician to figure out all the gearing and when to use each one.

a cone shaped cassette with spikes. Supporting structure within.

Least it will be easier to clean.

I think it is fine if it is at a reasonable growth rate. I mean we had 9 speed for a long time and the argument for ten over 9 was the same as 9 over 8. Less dramatic jumps between gears......

That said, this bulky 11 speed, is a bit much (for me). I mean if Shimano or campy are going to make and market it fine, but as an expensive aftermarket upgrade it seems like a pain. I want, regardless of the amount of gears, easy availability and sourceing of parts. I do not want ot have to fish around to make cassettes or pay 3 times what a cassette costs just because I do not want to have to select the right wheel for my needs.

I guess what I am saying is that if Shimano, Campy, or for that matter SRAM or FSA wan to bring this stuff online, fine. I am happy to use what they are putting out. But I am not gonna go get 11 just to go get 11.

If this rant seems out of character, I apologize. Happy hour got moved from 5pm to 2:30 today 'cause I was doing yard work with my neighbor and beer.

That was obvious to me sometime around the jump from 8 to 9.
