Kaatsu Workout (http://www.wsj.com/video/could-the-kaatsu-workout-be-the-most-efficient-exercise/55EF4814-6C30-4CE5-859A-D32E144741FA.html?mod=trending_now_video_3)

The idea is you exercise with tight bands around your upper arms and/or legs. And this causes a decreased blood flow, which makes your body use capillaries it doesn't normally rely on, and it traps lactic acid (perhaps this should be a hint that it is a scam) in the blood which leads to signalling that releases more growth hormone.

This will be the new HIIT.

Without empirical data I will not hold my breath, oh wait holding my breath, that could be the next thing to do while exercizing... I would be concerned with the potential harm from elevated veinous pressure. Veins typically operate under much lower pressure than arteries and excessive pressure can cause thrombosis. The notion that more capillaries will be used is probably true but so what? It does not increase oxygen carrying capacity to key areas, that is done by adding additional vascular tissue in these areas. In fact, if all the capillaries in our body were to open at the same time they could hold 200 Litres of blood!!! Typical blood volume is around 5 Litres. The lactic acid argument is interesting but not likely since there are a constellation of factors that stimulate muscle growth and vascularization. Blocking the flushing of some of these metabolites may not stimulate the desired effect.

Overall, this is a super fancy set of rubber bands that require a certified trainer at a seriously high cost per 1/2 hour, with the promise of get fit quick. I will stick with my Thigh Masterョ for serious strength training...
