So,
I am not a tech person at all. I am looking for a camera that is as easy to use as my Iphone camera but takes better pictures. Every one I try out has some sort of a cockamamie delay and its a pain in the ass. I want to be out on a ride, whip it out and get a good picture. My phone works fine but a good camera it is not.

iphone 6 has a pretty good camera.

Panasonic makes a really small good point and shoot.

Olympus TG series is a little bigger, still fits in a pocket. It's waterproof to like 30ft, shock proof and very rugged. F2.0 lens so pretty fast for a point and shoot. I experience no appreciable shutter delay with mine.

Probably best to go with this:

i am absolutely no photography stud; amd we have a few here on this forum. that said, for my amateur self, i think the iPhone 6 takes as good of a digital photo as any of the less expensive point and shoot digi's out there. that said, when i want to ride and take pics on the fly, i ride with a Panasonic Lumix waterproof camera. just sits in my jersey pocket, and i give it no regard for sweat, rain, etc - this way it's always available to pop out and snap. my phone stays a little more protected from the elements.

I just got an Iphone 6S and the camera is really good. It's great to stop and take a scenery or other snapshot photo. IMHO it is more difficult to take a good picture with a phone while riding the bike. If we are on vacation or a special ride where I want to get some decent photos on the move I throw my Canon S100 in a jersey pocket. Easy to take out, turn on, snap a pic, all with one hand without stopping. It's also nice to have a zoom and some control over basic settings. Lots of small, affordable cameras, that work well on the bike. I ended up with the Canon, from a recommendation in a thread like this a few years ago.

If you can afford the cost, The SONY RX100, whatever the latest version is very good. Pocket size camera that has image quality comparable to DSLR.

The iPhone camera is nice but the Achilles heel is always low light. The RX100 is very good at that. When you are ready to move away from the point and shoot mode, the camera gives you the full set of manual controls should you want to explore.

Amazon and B&H carries all 4 versions (original - $398 to IV - $948.) I have the original and I paid $500 for it 3 years ago. I am amazed that it still retains its value, which is hard for camera that size.

i use an iPhone 6 or RICOH GR for on the bike shooting. the ricoh is a truly excellent camera in every regard...you just don't get a zoom.

here is an album (https://www.flickr.com/photos/baumannphoto/albums/72157634643542202) of some photos from a trip to france a couple years back, all shot with the ricoh, most of them while riding.

here is a write-up (http://ridemetal.tumblr.com/post/56707328582/here-are-a-few-shots-of-the-handlebar-setup-that-i) i posted after that trip detailing the setup i used to carry and use the camera.

hope some of that is helpful...

Sony RX100 III or IV. Period. No need to kill yourself doing research. Just buy it.

Cool. I was there at around the same time. I carried a Sony P&S and my pics look quite inferior.

And for just a little more you can get the RX100 II rebadged as a Hasselblad Stellar (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1133750-REG/hasselblad_h_3012609_stellar_digital_camera_mahoga ny.html) in a variety of colors.

nope, gets the screen/camera all sweaty keeping it in a pocket, plus its really awkward and slow to get it in and out for a shot - have a look/read here (http://ridemetal.tumblr.com/post/56707328582/here-are-a-few-shots-of-the-handlebar-setup-that-i) for the setup i used ;)

You used to ride with a T4! I like your style. The handle bar bag looks perfect. I'm riding with friends tomorrow and I want to take some snaps with my LX100. I'm going to go dig through my camera bag pile and see if I can find a bag that will do the job. Thanks!

I hear ya on the delay, it drives me nuts. Over the years I had a few Sony Cybershots, they were great, perfect for traveling with. The latest model of the cybershot that I bought was a disaster, insanely long lag time and like 16 megapixels who needs that? Well some do for sure and I like having that kind of resolution for some things, but for riding with and everyday shooting no way jose. By the time the picture was taken what I wanted to capture was gone or not the same. I have an antiquated 4s whose camera is total crap compared to the 5c or the 6s whose camera is very nice indeed.

I will second the recommendation for the Sony RX100. It is really good. I also have a Canon 7D, and it's sometimes difficult to tell which camera took the image. The Sony software is very good, too. The thing I like most about the RX100, though, is the lack of shutter lag. It truly is point and shoot.

ps. I really like the camera on the new Samsung Galaxy phones for well-lit subjects. I have not made and enlargements from these images, however.

Fair weather: Canon S100
Bad weather: Nikon AW100 waterproof shockproof, and whatever-proof you need.

Both cameras I got used for under $100.

Works just fine.

I couldn't figure out a way to make the LX100 work on my ride yesterday so once again I shot with my trusty iPhone. Hate to say it but the LX100 would have been a nightmare to deal with compared to the iPhone. Anyone want to buy a like-new Lx100? ;)

Funny because I was the only d-bag wearing head-to-toe Rapha. Even got made fun of. But those beards are pretty spectacular.
