Can I double-check that I'm correct in identifying this as a Dura-Ace (that part is written on the back side of the hub, at least) Uniglide cassette? It's clearly not hyperglide with the lack of a lockring... I believe it's 7401-7402-7403 or thereabouts.

Thanks for any help.

Hard for me to tell from the pics, but either 7 or 8 speed Dura Ace and clearly a Uniglide set of cogs on there. 7402 and early 7403 were exclusively UG, later 7403 8 speed was UG/HG. Spin off the small cog; if there and BOTH internal AND external threads on the freehub it can take either kind of cog. If not, it's UG only.

Are these Sante compatible? I've got a Schwinn Circuit I'd like to have a backup cassette for.

Interesting, thanks. It's definitely 8-speed; I count it as 12-13-14-15-17-19-22-25. The cogs are in fabulously good shape for the age; I can't imagine that it's been used much at all. I'm not seeing any internal threads, or even room for them for that matter, so I'm guessing it's 7402 or early 7403.

I'm thinking strongly of using it in next spring's L'Eroica California, paired with 740x-era rear derailleur and downtube shifters. It's a little past their 1987 date, but fits within the overall guidelines. I might try to pick up a 28-tooth cog and run a 12-13-15-17-19-22-25-28 rear cassette.

yes, should be the same as the Sante uniglide cassette is a different finish and dura ace 7 or 8 speed cogs are loose and not bolted together like the ultegra and santé cassettes if I recall correctly

also I'm not aware they made a d/a freehub that was compatible with both?.is that even possible since the HG and UG splines are different ?

I'm still using a DA 8 speed freehub that can use both. It is currently runnig 10 speed. I think I Have a couple of thread on UG 13 t end cogs. PM me if you are interested. A 9-speed HG cog will work on the end of an 8 speed block. I never had problems mixing UG and HG cogs. You might be able to find a 26 or 27

Really? Sheldon Brown implies that, in order for the HG cogs to fit, you have to file off part of the wider tab.

I'm just happy that the cogs that are on there are in such good shape...

The 7402 hub was UG only, the 7403 HG and UG. Pretty sure the 7402 used the smaller diameter DA small cog, while the 7403 used the same thread diameter as the other groups. I have lots of NOS UG cogs (600 and lower) and some full 600 cassettes, but few loose thread ons. Willing to buy/sell/trade if anyone needs something. I'd be most interested in 13/14 small diameter 1st position thread-on cogs.

That seems right to me. I know I've HG filed cogs to fit. Easy to do though.

Steelbikerider probably has a 7403 hub.
