I got my first bicycle jersey in 1971. Most of my '70s wool jerseys have gone the way of all wool. My collecting is middling, about 30 when I last counted, and can't begin to touch the collection of my friend and prolific cycling author Owen Mulholland, who must have a hundred.

I have a few classics, including a commemorative Iditabike jersey from 1989. What's your best or favorite jersey? How many do you have?

My "best" jersey is now in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, where it accompanies "Breezer#1," the seminal mountain bike built in 1977 by Joe Breeze. Here's what it looks like.

I'm partial to this one also.

I don't know if it is the "best," but the one jersey I wear that gets the most comments is my WordPerfect jersey! Techies, lawyers and just about anyone that used a computer in the late 80s/early 90s know this software program!

Btw - WP is still around, although its market share is probably 1% or less...

I don't collect, but I have about a dozen. Most are black or red or some combination of the two.

This is the best. Several times people have asked me "Where'd ya get dat shirt, buddy?"

This used to be my favorite till I outgrew it. 90's Assos all red with just the Swiss cross, minimal .75" collar. Large jerseys then fit like medium now.

my favorite jersey from a looks perspective (the fit and material are nice, too) is my cutaway "interaction" jersey:

Talk about a trip down memory lane. I'd completely forgotten about Wordperfect.

At last count I had 56. I'll have to think about what's my "best" ... Maybe the pink Pantani Mercatone Uno jersey as part of the kit that climbed Ventoux?

i got a load of them, many that were provided as a gift for participating in an event. Can't tell the difference between an expensive Assos one and our club jersey which come from a rather inexpensive supplier. It comes down to fit really. And color of course, i avoid dark colors when it's hot.

15 or so jerseys. This is one of my favorites. I was pulled over in Boulder along with a fellow Spartan for wearing the Green and White. Turned out the officer was a Spartan and wanted to know where to get one.

Red blood cells and all.

I saw a guy riding up Mt. Lemmon a few years ago in this jersey, from a distance it looked like a polka dot jersey. It is one of the coolest jerseys I've ever seen, the red blood platelets are awesome.

I had the whole set of 5 from the Castelli collectors set....but that one was different from this one. I think this one was one that the Tour handed out to mayors and other dignitaries as they passed thru your town.

I also have the KoM from 1989 (Gert Jan Theunisse) but I said I would never wear it unless I took it to when he won it 1st (BTW - the trip was worth every $$).

Not a timeless classic, per se, but this one sure does strike a chord given my heritage ;-)

WAY too many.....

Probably an old Serotta jersey signed by Ben, Davis Phinney, and Ron Kiefel.

Used to have a bunch. I'm pretty much figured out what I like these days and have a few variations of the Rapha Pro Team. Great quality, great fit, minimalist design. I keep it simple and don't mix it too much. Pretty boring i know.
