I'm in the market for a new threaded headset for the Mercian (ISO crown races). I'd prefer cartridge bearings, but it's not a complete deal breaker.

I know King is probably the gold standard, but I'm not sure I'd like to drop $130 on this bike right now. Any other recommendations for a good value headset?

Nice headset, easily replaceable bearings(standard size bearings), I sold and installed many. Comes in colors.

DOH!! RTFP//Read The Farging Post-threaded...leave this for 1 1/8 threadless tho...

I like the Cane Creek 110s personally.

I have a VO on the Atlanta and it seems to be nicely built.

Tange Levin for cheap if you can handle the caged balls...otherwise, may a VO or FSA Duron X. The Token needle bearing headsets are cool...probably have to order from the UK though.

Silver, I assume?

Have a Campy Record and Dura Ace 7410 just poised and ready for you...

Velo-Orange Grand Cru is a very nice headset for a reasonable price and cartridge bearings. If you don't care about sealed bearings, Campy Record and Shimano DA or Ultegra are nice. For more bucks, Chris King or Cane Creek Classic 110.

Tange Levin's are famous for being a great value for the money. Or, Chain Reaction has the Dura Ace 7410 for $103.
