I think Dave Moulton hit the nail on the head. (http://davesbikeblog.squarespace.com/blog/2015/12/8/selling-the-benefit.html)
What do you think?
There will always be some sort of marketing conspiracy for lots of products.
Its not wise for manufacturers to deliberately push a inferior product for short term gain and than loss business to the the many competitors in the long term.

Good fair article. How else could you sell anything.....if you didn't explain the features, and sell the benefits? I learned a long time ago......you cannot expect all potential buyers to connect a products features to any benefit.....you have to explain that. IE sell it!
That's why sales people are so highly paid in many industries. it's not easy to be a successful salesman. And a sales person does not have to be a sleeze ball.
That's also why a good, honest, successful salesman will ask you a lot of questions up front. Making sure whatever he's selling is suitable for you.
The question of "suitability" cost a lot of folks their jobs during the time of my career in the financial services business.
