The NYT article regarding Serotta: "The company offers an entry-level customized model for about $3,500; its highest-end bike goes for $20,000."

The Meivici must be the $20,000 bike, but what is put on it to reach that amazing figure? ADA or Lightweight wheels, Record or Dura-Ace, SRM Pro... What else?

Maybe the same person that painted Harrison Ford's bike a few years back did the 20K Serotta....

I heard a UCLA Art Prof charged LandSahrk (Ford) $8000.00 to paint his bike. What more extravagant can someone get, uh? And I mean both, the Prof and Ford. John was actually pretty disgusted by the whole thing, so he said....

carbon post, bars, stem

20,000 easy

if you've earned the money, why not, if that's what you want. you don't even have to ride it. some people have ferraris for grocery store runs, you know.

They call it positioning in marketing, iirc. When the average price of high-end cars is $100,000, and watches $50,000, and baby shoes $200, and ladies purses $1,500, etc., it is smart to assume a low volume high margin position. And the custom thing is part of the rationale for the strategy. It makes sense. There is an economic stratum out there that doesn't know what to do with the money. $50,000,000 for a painting is no longer a big deal. $20,000 for a bike is chicken feed.

That's the difference between cynic and Cynic. The ones relaxing will have to get their butts off their Lazy Boys the moment their water turns brown like Coca Cola. Development as it is known will succumb to the Cynics. Diogenes' lantern's shinning light will prevail, atmo. There's still hope for Sybil.

It's at least as much as Simoni would have had to pay for a stage win, so it's sort of a bargain....
