I just hope the young man realizes the magnitude of this second chance. He had better make something of himself.

But, but whilst under this 'pressure' he was DUI & hit someone who wasn't even on the road.
Not sure I'd be so understanding.

The article said the driver was under the influence of prescription drugs, not booze or dope or other recreational pharmaceuticals. That makes his crime a little bit less heinous, but not much.
Either way, I agree that it would be hard to manage that level of compassion, and I don't know if I could do it. But I very much admire the family for doing so.
