Says he rides 120 miles a week. Rides Ultegra. I think that's pretty cool. Even with relatively unlimited funds (NFL money) he chose Ultegra. Puts some perspective on things as I get my Super Record bike ready for today's ride.:D

I think he runs a lot too. There was recently a photo of him competing in a triathlon. And despite his decades in the spotlight, he's only in his mid-40s.

He's done a lot to keep in shape since retiring from the NFL.

I wonder what other athletes have done? I know Barry Bonds was into cycling.

Jose Fernandez used to bike about 600 miles a week, but I think the team banned him from riding.

I like the perspective on using Ultegra too. Lets remember a kid won a stage of ATOC last year on Mechanical Ultegra.
It's all about the engine, we all know that. I bet Brett's got a decent natural one.

Bo Jackson rides. So does/did LeBron James, and Reggie Bush, of course Bill Walton

I have some friends who work at Trek and were there for his visit. They all said he was a very nice dude and that they spent most of the day joking around and laughing.

Bo does a charity ride in Alabama every year for the past several years at least. A Buddy has done all them and says Bo is incredibly nice a very decent guy.

I suspect Brett didn't choose ultegra, it's likely what came on the bike or what someone built it up with.

yup, total bummer because he used to ride with all the cuban dudes in my area. I photographed him for SI after his rookie season and we were comparing bikes and talking about riding in the offseason and then he blew his arm out. when he gets back in pitching form I bet he'll be back on the rides.

Would've been so much cooler if he rode a Waterford, imo.

he was on TV recently when Green Bay honored him. He looked good, and they talked about him riding bikes.

The bike was a gift from trek - I live in Milwaukee and the media covered the hell out of the bike and how futuristic it is and all that - he said he started riding because his wife is doing a tri. I have an earlier pic of him in a fitting, looks like a carbon bike but can't tell what it is -cool to see him riding though.

That's because you have good taste in components!

He's lucky to be able to run and bike, considering the punishment his body has taken. Seriously. Some players, even QBs, couldn't even walk a few years into retirement. I haven't seen a picture of Elway standing recently.

He came into the season sooo much stronger. He was having monster season until the injury. I'd be willing to bet cycling had something to do with his success

""Brett and Deanna competed in the Key West Sprint Triathlon in Key West, FL this past weekend and although Brett did okay for his second time out (#1 in his category on the bike) he was no match for the Mrs."

The dude is too heavy just to start. The wife is super light, and probably she is a distant runner, from there to the bike and swimm is not more than a technique problem, but for the footballer, well... a lot of brute power, and you have to drag that weight swimming and running, dunno why they are surprised she crushed him. Add to that some stuff going on in his back or whatever, doesnt surprise me at all she won to him, what surprise me is that he is still doing stuff up to a descent level, admirable IMO.
