I finally got another bike that I could fit a frame fit Silca Impero on. It has a 60 TT which measures 57 from inside to inside. I'll be buying one off of evilBay and need to know how the sizes printed on the pump (as well as the measurements) correspond to the measurements above. I'll be using a Campy head.

A new Silca? Sizes are on their site.

...what really bums me out is that, less than a year ago, I sold one that would have probably fit at a yard sale for $10.

The old style campy head (the one with the blue tips) adds about 3cm.
The pump itself (old style flat head but I suspect the notched head is similar) compresses about 4cm.

Good info. Thanks!

You need to find an Impero with a compression size that fits the interior of the top tube then subtract about 3-4cm for the head.

As near as I can recall they used to make them in about 7 sizes, in a range of 350/390/430/470/510/550/590 mm many years ago but I saw fewer sizes as the years went by. The measurement supposedly refers to the pump body length measured end to end relaxed. I have a labelled 510 mm still in cellophane which actually measures 494mm for the pump body relaxed and 520mm with a Campy pump head on it. A 52 cm tube-to-tube measurement is the largest I would use for this pump. Compressing it is preferable (up to 4 cm) as it is less likely to be jarred loose from the bike.

Check with Yellow Jersey near Madison WI as they carried the old style until they ran out this year. They now carry the new Silca Impero. Lots of info on their site: http://www.yellowjersey.org/silca.html#CANDY

That is great info. My Atlanta has the pump peg, but I don't think it will affect sizing.

These figures came from a mid '90's pump chart that referred to (c-c) frame measurements to determine Silca Impero pump size from the 5 sizes carried at the time.

PUMP SIZE Frame size(c-c)

390mm [39 to 44cm]

430mm [43 to 48cm]

470mm [47 to 52cm]

510mm [51 to 56cm]

550mm [55 to 59cm]
