Campagnolo Daytona Brake Lever shifter question.
I have a nice set of Campagnolo Daytona Brake Lever shifters I got off craigslist a while ago MY question is this are they eight speed shifters. How would I tell. Plan on using with a Campagnolo cassette But what cassette do I buy 7, 8 or 9 I am aware you can change out the indexing gear from 7 to 8 or 8 to 9 but prefer to avoid doing that. any help appreciated

Cant you just count the clicks from the levers?

Sometimes you will need to insert a shift wire in order for the mechanism to click properly. Keep the wire tensioned by pulling with your and count the clicks. Obviously the shifters will be 1 more speed than the clicks you hear.

Should be 9 or 10. 8 clicks is 9. 9 clicks is 10

Yes....it could be 10 I believe. I have an old Daytona crankset...and it says 10 speed.

Don't think there was 8 spd Daytona, IIRC. So 9 or 10 speed. FWIW, my Daytona ergos were clearly labeled 10 spd in the usual location.

I use tuscanyswe's technique for figuring it out... yep, sometimes some cable tension is needed, especially if the G springs are well used.

2000 Daytona (replaced 1999 Athena) was 9 speed only. After that it could be either 9 or 10. I'm not sure the 2000 right lever was labeled 9 speed but the later ones definitely were. If you have a right lever that doesn't say anything I'd guess it's 2000 and 9 speed. I suspect they weren't labeled that year as 1999 Record and Chorus 9 RH levers were not labeled 9 speed, though the RDs were.

2000 Daytona (replaced 1999 Athena) was 9 speed only.

+1

Also, after being sued or something for the name, the group name changed, so it was only made for a partial/one year.

Daytona was 9 in 2000 model year, 9 and 10 in 2001, replaced by Centaur in 2002. I'm pretty sure I have a first year group on a bike I built new in 2000. I'll try to get it out and look at the levers.
