Not so tough, atmo. Where I live, there is an ongoing political scandal about a lady who worked as special advisor to the President and got some $50,000 stolen from her freezer. That is, apparently, she had a large stash of money stolen from her house by a maid and a gardener. She reported the theft to the police, the maid and the gardener were arrested, and they declared that they had taken the money from the freezer. They said that she used to keep money in the fridge, the freezer, closets, and other unlikely places.

The case is being investigated but the whole thing about money in the freezer has become a running joke. She is called the PopsycleDollar lady.

So there, Doc, I think you would do quite well in the tropics. Moreover, the air is so thick and humid that pollen is not an issue here. If you come to live in the tropics you can say bye bye to the allergies and you can keep your money in the freezer, atmo.

Just kidding. In fact, I don't know what you are talking about. What is this "slush fund" of which you speak? And who would be stupid enough to hide it in the freezer, where someone just looking for ice cubes or a popsicle might stumble upon it?

Where I live, there's this ongoing scandal about some poor elected official from Louisianna who--allegedly--had 90k taken from his freezer by the FBI shortly after the FBI had videotaped his receipt of what was--allegedly--100k in bribe money.

Wonder which bike he bought with the missing 10k?

Wonder whether anybody from the judicial branch is chilling bills?

1) Buy a Uniscasi
2) Stuff the frame full of money
3) Buy a good padlock

Try this one...

You had to buy it for saftey reasons. The old one was developing stress risers and the last thing you want is a catastrophic failure on some big descent. ;)

If you don't have kids always steeling batteries out of your radios for toys, hiding cash in the battery cavity of a cheap tape recorder is a good spot, I reckon

Lately I've been hiding cash in paint, appliances, and window coverings. Soon I will be hiding cash in a bathroom renovation.

Maybe I should stop taking my wife's advice on cash hiding....

I use the same method and an envelope gettin nice and fat for my new Spectrum, of course since Tom K prefers checks or plastic I will have a large deposit and payment to the cc company when my bike is ready.

And then, (here comes a big lie) I will be satisfied and not feel the need to continue buying more and more.

We (I) are (am) really pathetic spendthrifts.

...if it's in plain sight

As 72gmc said, I'm hiding cash in unlikely places this week:
a new furnace,
ducts,
removing an oil tank - I think that one's particularly sneaky - who would look at an old oil tank on someone else's property as a place to hide cash? Yet it will have a lot of it in it!
Plumbing and electrical connections - whoo hoo!

Overall, I don't think it will ever be found.

I electronically throw all the extra cash into a Cap. One money market account along with my tax witholding $$ (1099'd employee of our company) to accumulate throughout the year, and then when it comes time to pay the taxes, there it is. Hopefully the rest of the cash will be magically turned into a custom CDA with some handbuilt wheels. I also keep about $100 in my safe at home for rainy days, and a small savings account linked to my checking account. My Dad kept his cash in his sock drawer - it was very easy to find about 30 yrs ago....

my brother cleaned out some old clothes from his closet...not knowing his wife had hidden all her heirloom jewelry in a pocket of an old house coat.
out.
he went down to the salvation army drop...crawled into the can, throwing stuff out of the thing, searching through all he could fine, tried to find the stuff, got caught in there by a cop, did not find the jewelry..never lived it down.
good if someone else maybe knows what you are doing.

not me though, ill take the cash. the jewelry i dont care about.

Magic Law of 72

Law of 72

Take the constant (72) and divide it by the (rate of return) to find out how many years it will take your money to double.

* 72 divided by 4 = 18
* 72 divided by 6 = 12
* 72 divided by 8 = 9
* 72 divided by 10 = 7.2
* 72 divided by 15 = 4.8

Which would you rather have?

Compare $10,000 invested over 20 years growing at different interest rates:

* 4% = $22,005
* 6% = $32,610
* 8% = $48,295
* 10% = $71,478
* 15% = $189,942

What if I saved money?

Take it a month at a time,
$200 invested each month for 20 years.

* 4% = $71,830
* 6% = $90,241
* 8% = $114,686
* 10% = $147,349
* 15% = $287,708

Your total contributions $47,200

my brother cleaned out some old clothes from his closet...not knowing his wife had hidden all her heirloom jewelry in a pocket of an old house coat.
out.

One year at Thanksgiving my mother and I went up to Marblehead MA (sometime home of none other than Tyler Hamilton) to visit my sister. My mother, figuring everyone could read her mind, put all her smallish jewelry in a Kleenex and put that somewhere in her bedroom. (It was never clear to me where exactly it was placed, maybe the bedside table.) Not a huge amount of stuff, but perhaps a few grand worth of various things. So the next day she's looking all over for the Kleenex/jewelry and can't find it. To make a long story short she and my sister finally concluded that I must have been the person who flushed it down the toilet. (Although in retrospect I have to think that it's more likely that I would have just tossed it in the trash.) We look everywhere, but no jewelry. My mother was pretty bummed, especially at me, but 1) I had no recollection of every tossing someone else's Kleenex out (I'm not the anal type.) and 2) Even if I did, who in the world puts jewelry there? So I did not feel terribly guilty, even if I had been the one to do that. Anyway, she has since rebuilt her stash but I still don't take responsibility for that mess.
