I will be having back surgery next month. Need someone (cheap not a 'service" agency) just to walk/run our dogs after school or whenever. I found people on care.com but the f'ing website charges 35.00 mth, and I heard bad comments on stopping recurring charges. i have called the local high school, no reply and our vet, who is a bit far away. Any idea how I can find someone close to house that would like to just walk and play for few bucks? Maybe help with some other real basic stuff while recovering, as is just picking stuff up?
I found one girl that seemed interested and markets herself as a dog walker, but I can't get to actually talk with her. This new generation can't talk!
any websites that kids post to looking to do something?
thx

Baby sitter/dog sitter sites? Where you can actually vet the people before you hire?

Try your local animal shelter or your local police department's animal control officer.

Call your local high school's guidance counselor or athletic director. They usually have a good sense of kids who have a good work ethic/are reliable/want the work.

We are lucky we have all age kids in our neighborhood. My 12 yr old actually helps our neighbor walk her 2 yr old in a stroller and their Malamute and Samoyed.
We tried Care.com, too hard to find the good ones...

For pet sitting/dog walking, we've found people through our local vets.
Paid service the last time we used it was not cheap though.

Near by college?
College kids are usually broke and busy so dog walking would be perfect I would think.

I'm looking for someone to get my pups out during the workday, and a friend just sent me this link: https://www.rover.com

Where are you?
This is a perfect job for a HS or college kid.
Or someone with a Ph.d in philosophy.
But seriously, much to be said for the kindness of strangers on the Internet.
When our dog was a young puppy, I got an assignment that would allow me to take the whole family to Sun Valley skiing.
But Tessie was too young for a kennel or a drop in dog sitter
A friend on a golden retriever discussion board (who owned Tessie's Uncle Jester) insisted on taking her and fussing over her 24/7.
Not only did we have an amazing vacation, but I'm convinced that this stay helped to socialize Tessie and make her the remarkable self-possessed dog she is today.

Eric (dog) and I frequent dog parks where we often meet other local dog owners and professional dog walkers. Are there any such parks near you?
When I was in the hospital last year post-crash Leslie was able to get church friends and neighbors to walk Eric when she was working.

churches, community centers, local community colleges usually have bulletin boards where you can post stuff. The panera bread restaurant in our neighbor hood has one as well

is taskrabbit available in your area?
And you can try local shops where kids work; Starbucks, Coffee Bean, Trader Joes, local music shops. A lot of 'em still have pin-up boards for local announcements.

church. the lds (mormon) worship by geographic location, so if you type your address at this website: https://www.mormon.org/worship
it will show you the nearest chapel and give you the bishops name and phone number. Call him, and let him know what you're looking for.
i'm a bishop in las vegas and our biggest area of work/concern is with our youth. They're always looking for an opportunity to work/earn a little extra money. You'll also find someone that lives near you, maybe on your street?
if you'd like, you can send my your address by pm and i'll send you a contact number.

In Vermont, pretty much each town or small region has a community forum you can sign up for, called Front Porch Forum. People post all kinds of things, and there are lots of kids offering to do work for cash. It seems to work pretty well.
i thought the high school guidance counselor suggestion was pretty good.
I hope your surgery is a great success.

Not a big user of the service, but in a pinch, its reliable. Else, I know of a friend who'd post this sort of stuff on CraigsList.
